She is right. The Trump admin is literally doing this. They terminated humanitarian parole for hundreds of thousands of people who came here LEGALLY through a government program, and they are calling all those people "illegal aliens."

I mean given the way things are going it quite possibly won't be my problem (gallows chuckle), but, I am NOT looking forward to writing about REF "research environment" circa. 2021-2029, and particularly not looking forward to yakking about "substantial connections" to my colleagues who are gone.

Word for word I thought this was the NYT pitchbot cracking a joke till I saw that, nope! Journalism, if you can keep it (you can't).

Sitting US Senator Alex Padilla forcibly wrestled to the ground and arrested by the FBI for attempting to ask a question of DHS secretary Kristin Noem.

Police States don't sneak up on you, guys. They just get permission.

Booker is up, and he is uh, understandably, PISSED.

In honor of Brian Wilson's passing, here are the four categories of Beach Boys songs: 1. surfing is great, you should try it 2. I have a good vehicle 3. I reach beyond myself into the ineffable, and that's where I find you, my love 4. sloop john b

I think this is a revealing piece on Starmer, less for what I learn about him, and more for what I'm hearing come out of his circle when they reflect. Whichever aide said "there is no economic growth or national security without hope” is absolutely correct. Hope needs to be rebuilt though.

Yes I know its more complicated and the ouvre is deeper, but when I think beach boys I think happy. And that's Brian Wilson's music to me, in a nutshell.

After 201 Years the 1824 Vagrancy Act is dead. Let's savor a moment spent kicking its corpse.

I see Peterson is back to his origin story (diagrams of the female dragon of chaos and the male Order of Rational Meaning Making or whatever).

This ban on work for asylum seekers probably led to large numbers of them sleeping rough. It's a truly silly idea.

This is good news and I'm guessing Nick Crowson's been on their case about the 1824 Act. If they'd ever asked me or any other historian of vagrancy we'd have said the exact same, the 1824 Act was retrograde and cruel *at the time*. Much worse now.

Goin to the archives, might... micro-filmmm some micro <fiche>.

I know we overuse the phrase "history shows that", but history shows that there is inevitably a constituency for authoritarianism and strongman dictatorship, and, that it can be cultivated (tolerance paradox). These people often believe harder than the cynics at the top, will do more, and do worse.

Welcome to the archives.

My book, "Welsh Revivalism in Imperial Britain" (or "True Britons and Celtic Empires", if you'd prefer) is now AVAILABLE FOR HARDBACK PREORDER Your library needs more about bardic antislavery, imperial complicity, and druids with telescopes, no? boydellandbrewer.com/978183765195...

I mean, similarly, people need to understand how 'native' the functional sociopathy of internet forum culture has become to authoritarian mass politics. The casual and constant fabulation, the trolling, etc. Because calling someone an "NPC" is substantively the same thing.
