It has started already: there is currently a very delicate situation in the Cook Islands: www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

Oh yeah I got confused. Either Indy in Toronto or F1 in Montreal would suit me fine!

We did the whole Niagara Falls and Toronto thing a couple of years back - it was great. I would love to get back to Toronto for the Canadian GP. Also did the Inside Passage cruise - also great.

Please drink a few from NZ too! They are quite nice.

NZ here. Exactly the same. Formerly frequent visitors to the US, but not happening now. I wouldn’t be surprised if we eventually get the whole tariff thing down here too, so if you guys resist you would be doing us an enormous solid.

Doohan is an unusual name for an Austrian! (He’s Australian).

NZ here. My plan is to not spend any tourist dollars in the US. If all the world does this, it could make a difference. It’s a bit of a slow burn though, I guess.

Let’s make CANZUK happen. That would be amazing.

Searched for “F1” thinking I’d get, you know, Lewis Hamilton and stuff. But a good keyboard roast is fine too!

I heard there was a competition to climb Mount Wank blindfolded. The winner had no idea where he came.

Well we are part of the old empire, so maybe some of the Britishness has rubbed off.

And it happened 42 years ago. I remember it like it was yesterday.

I agree. Only in posting this have I realised that the experience may have subsequently allowed me to think “no matter how gross this could be, it will be nowhere near as bad as the cow run incident”

I came off a farm bike in a concrete cow run covered in 6 inches of semi-liquid cow shit once. I don’t know if it’s really relevant to this thread, but the experience was formative.

Yeah I don’t get this “you’re the enemy because you bought a car ages ago when it wasn’t at all obvious he was a complete nutter”. I’m a bit surprised Nance holds this view too. The cost is sunk and you’re not doing anything by selling it.

In New Zealand we have had the End of Life Choice Act since 2019. Without any particular axe to grind, I don’t think many of the concerns voiced at the time have turned out to be real issues in practice. But the law is under review this year, so it will be interesting to see the report.

I think it’s because the strip properties don’t want the road closed until as late as possible, to maximise their takings. Also, the time is perfect for me here in NZ!

…I think what you could do is put it on and challenge @alanbaxter.bsky.social’s black belt to some kind of cross-code duel.

Oh man, that’s now 2 generations of irrelevant! When I worked for GE in the 90s, 6 sigma was going literally save the world, and we were turning ourselves inside out trying to apply it to software. Which was a colossal waste of time.

I heard he was also clairvoyant. There’s a small medium at large. (Not an original, but I thought I would throw it on)

Took me ages too. Read the second dash with respect to the first. (Hope it’s not against the rules to give clues like this).

Nothing technology-wise. Your best option is to have a personality so toxic that no-one wants to impersonate you.
