"There are now zero Ontario PC MPPs along the Bloor, Yonge, and University bike lanes. Ford has no electoral mandate in these areas, and as a result, he’s lost any claims to a moral authority that he represents the interests of those communities on this issue."

The firm Stantec has been named. Put them on the shelf with Diamond Schmitt & Urban Strategies as corporate citizens who’ll take the cash to destroy part of the city (and here put lives at risk).

Myself, and a few others will be writing letters to the PEO. Licensed engineers' prime directive is to protect the public. There is absolutely no evidence that this does. The penalty for not doing so is suspension or loss of one's license. You typically can't practice while under investigation.

People are fed up with being bullied by a government fixated on igniting a culture war. Let’s be clear: Toronto has over 5,300 kilometres of roads. Blaming gridlock on 19 kilometres of bike lanes isn’t just absurd—it’s deliberate misdirection.

👏👏👏 @lanrickbennett.bsky.social spacing.ca/toronto/2025...

Montreal’s massive snow removal operation requires towing a minimum of 50 cars per hour! People are supposed to move their cars (as indicated on the sign/app) but not everyone does it.

Snowy day in Toronto and an errand to run on the other side of town. Conditions were a bit rougher than I expected at first, but as usual have no regrets about taking the bike. So much traffic downtown - definitely better than being part of that! #BikeTO

Mark Shapiro, right about now.

Study Break 🚲

Cargo bike plus cold plunge! A brilliant Saturday morning in Toronto. Like many others, I can get a bad case of the winter blues. Having a wonderful group of people to gather with every Saturday morning has made for a much more palatable winter. A little bit spiritual, a little bit crazy. Perfect!

If anyone I know or you know has a need to get rid of 2 Father John Misty tickets for the February show at Massey Hall, please remember me! 🤞

God bless Not Just Bikes youtu.be/KgFCQ7jEZxI?...

As of Dec 7, the Balance on Bloor website - the face of the "rip up bike lanes in Toronto" movement - is gone. How many ppl gave $ or personal info to make a "better community for all", before this supposed "grassroots" campaign shut down? Textbook example of an Astroturf campaign. Pure scam.

Been looking to get out of my comfort zone lately and meet some new people/try new things. Did my fourth cold plunge in Lake Ontario this morning. A bit of breathwork, followed by a dip and then food and conversation by the fire. Perfect.

I just want to shout out @graphicmatt.bsky.social because this dude does amazing work covering what's happening at city hall. Dude's fiercely independent and thorough and we need more Matt Elliotts. toronto.cityhallwatcher.com/p/police-bud...

Baseball and therapy? Same thing for me. Baseball IS therapy ⚾🛋️ cc: @cespedesbbq.bsky.social

Honoured to finally meet the wonderful @shawnmicallef.bsky.social tonight. The original version of Stroll: Psychogeographic Walking Tours of Toronto (2010) changed the way I connect with this city. The updated version is a welcome reminder of the "good" about living in Toronto. Highly recommend it!

First year university. I saw the The Tragically Hip live in Detroit on Saturday night (the show that became their live album), then drove to Hamilton and watched Doug Flutie and the Argos win the Grey Cup in the snow the next day. Incredibly 🇨🇦 weekend.

Toronto's best hope is that they give the removal work to Metrolinx. It will take 12 years to plan and design, and the cost will grow to $200 million per km and might never be finished.

Finally saw the Paris transformation this summer, stunning. Along with Montreal, these two mayors smoked the anglosphere. I hope we see the likes of Hidalgo and Plante again, and often.

I read this and think: Chow has to spend the political capital and fight Bill 212. It may be futile but not doing so will also have political costs. Just don't do it.

CONSPIRACY-SUSCEPTIBLE BABY BOOMER (carrying a phone with 7 types of spyware on it, drives a Tesla covered with mapping cameras, has a Ring camera uploading his neighborhood footage 24/7 to the cloud): "I'm just worried 15 minute cities will lead us to a surveillance state"

NEW PATREON BONUS: Doug Ford and Ontario’s War on Bikes Ontario Premier Doug Ford is on a crusade against bike lanes. His government is pushing a bill that would require provincial approval of all bike lanes that repurpose car lanes. We discuss with journalist Sabrina Nanji. Subscribe for access:

Here's a better question for my Toronto friends: What are your favourite indoor places to read/write/work? I'm doing an online program and am starved for inspiration. I need to get out more. (I prefer quiet places - and my favourite is the magnificent Toronto Reference Library)

Toronto friends: Is there any public indoor space on the Toronto Islands where someone could so some reading and writing? I don't think there is, but I am hoping I am wrong (I don't think the Island Cafe would be suitable for this) I'll tag @shawnmicallef.bsky.social for fun - I bet he knows 🙏

A beautiful morning for breathwork and a cold plunge in Lake Ontario. New to this, but loving the experience. Great community, incredibly invigorating, and just enough "crazy" to keep me coming back
