The idea of Peter Cook building an alt Serpentine pavilion is antithetical to its whole concept. It's in no way mischievous, unless we're reading it as a comment on the current political climate of old irrelevant white men with anachronistic ideas of 'new' getting their elbows back out in front.

Delighted to find that Tri Fire designed the EWS1 remediation strategy for our building which is 50% complete. At least they put insulation back on the bit with my flat in last week. Not ideal for those sitting in uninsulated flats while works are stopped for it to be re validated…

I do understand the feeling of betrayal from the club after they backed him in January. I'm annoyed too. But with Venky's in charge, no manager will ever really see Rovers as a viable project, so this will keep on happening until they cash in their chips. www.theguardian.com/football/202...

Thought I might have a look at what’s on at Sadlers Wells East. Quite surprised to find a £15 show was subject to an extra £4 ‘building maintenance fee’. Is this some sort of architecture tax? Seems curious to itemise it that way, esp on a brand new building.

Well, @404media.co is on fire with this headline (worthy of El Reg @theregister.com over here) And this excerpt is just glorious

Early morning in a sunnier past. Rome, where it is often still sunny, literally if not necessarily metaphorically.

Thank you Architect's Data File magazine for succinctly illustrating where the industry is at in understanding and specifying bio-based materials. Great to see so many 'yes' though. Whatever that means...

GMail has a handy 'unsubscribe' button for spam. But I presume this just diverts the messages away from your inbox rather than actively unsubscribing. I wonder what the total potential carbon cost is, of billions of emails being sent and then diverted, never to be read?

If Man U are in crisis / relegation trouble, what does that mean for Spurs if they lose the NLD, given they’ll be just 1 point ahead of Utd having played a game more?

Somewhat challenging lighting conditions at Vila Park. Not in real life obviously…

Oof.

I don't quite know why it makes me feel so angry, but I'm finding the whole idea of the Archigram 10 book quite triggering. Is this stuff really what architects are putting their time and energy into? Now, in this world? Just feels so deeply anachronistic, blinkered and self indulgent.

If on a Friday someone said to you ‘we’ll deliver on the next working day’ am I bonkers for assuming that would be Monday rather than Saturday? I’d always thought working days were a fixed concept of Mon to Fri, not, ‘the days we happen to be working’?

Here is the latest in our 25 year long tradition of more than slightly unseasonal greetings cards. Happy New Year and all that from all at Waugh Thistleton. If you find this mildly diverting, the card archive can be found by clicking the Christmas tree icon on the 'Practice' page of our website.

I have over diluted my pastis. One hopes this is the last wanton act of violence 2024 will inflict upon us. Wishing you all, but also, importantly, me, a better 2025. x

In fairness, I think this might be the most concerted and convincing effort at staying humble I’ve ever seen - from Haaland since he said that to Arteta. Certainly a very humble penalty there just now…

The smallest pack of onions in my local Tesco. I’m going away tomorrow but I want to cook dinner. Is there any wonder we waste so much.

Wondering if I’m cursed. I’d say around 75% of thing I order online are either incomplete, faulty or delivered incorrectly / not at all. From takeaway to xmas presents. Is it just me or is this just how it is?

I love that most suppliers send Xmas emails now instead of cards, calendars or other unsolicited tat. It's not about sustainability. It just means I can, in about one week, identify every marketing email list I am on and click unsubscribe from them all. Bah, humbug you cry. I care not.

"Something about why do only rich white people apply for junior jobs that we advertise...." Of course I can't afford to live in London any more either, and if we had the money to pay everyone, including younger people, enough to live easily in London then we would. But something needs to change...

Don't know what inspired me to read this, albeit usually very informative, circular from Iceni Planning today, but I think it's rather a good idea. Why not make the City the centre of London's flailing night time economy? email.iceniprojects.com/morning-cont...

Here at our practice we lead the world in generating new knowledge in sustainable architecture using wood, whilst designing and delivering buildings. Instead of employing people without paying them to support this, we simply are not rich. Happy to explain this model to Daniel.

We need to better define the term 'form finding' when using AI for architecture. Structural analysis tools do form finding, using algorithms to optimise / rationalise against real life constraints. What most architects are doing with this tech, is 'shape making'. Which is definitively not the same.

So I feel like the moments after the Xmas party are when you’re allowed to sort of mentally close the year right?

Whilst I'm very much in support of striking rail workers, can I just point out that I like many other people have now already made non-refundable alternative travel plans to get home for xmas as the strikes have been called off...

How long till we can call this the moment that brought down an empire?

Boring UK architecture question incoming... There are loads of checklists and templates for architects working as PD under CDM, but I can't find any handy checklists for your duties when your are only a 'designer' for the purposes of the act...
