The real tragedy is that Island of Strangers would have made a perfectly decent title for a Booker -nominated novel and they've spaffed it on nativism instead.

I’m distinctly uneasy with the notion that migration has done “incalculable damage” to the UK - but I think it’s important to note that the PM is pointing the finger at the Tories’ broken promises on the issue as being damaging. Nevertheless, to leave room for doubt is pretty stupid in my view.

This is bullshit. You can say there are costs, you can even claim the costs outweigh the benefits. But to say that immigration has caused incalculable damage is not just hugely offensive to millions of people and their families, but simply empirically demonstrably wrong

This is an astoundingly good interview. The LA Port Director explains very clearly how profoundly trade is coming to a screeching halt. This summer will be tough.

Hard to disagree with any of this thread.

I realise that we’re all supposed to venerate Sir John, but there’s much in this that’s overblown or complete phooey.

Depends who you ask… I remember at least one Belgian newspaper calling UKIP the “extrême droite anglaise”, which would never have been used at home. It surprised me at the time (around 2014) and I think in retrospect it was a bit exaggerated for that moment.

“Governing to please BlueSky users is not a viable route to electoral success and, much as I might like to see it, I don't think we should fool ourselves into thinking it is.” 💯

There is no other word for illegally deporting a toddler with cancer apart from evil. Not just Trump and Stephen Miller but every single person involved in doing it from start to finish.

Is this the longest way in recorded history of saying “he just needs one to go in off his backside”, @footballcliches.bsky.social?

@footballcliches.bsky.social Been off the Reddit and social media while on holiday, so it may have been covered, but got sent this by my sister and it seems to have massive potential to go very, very wrong… www.rsc.org.uk/much-ado-abo...
