Gorgeous night playing D & D live for @ilfdublin.bsky.social! Huge thanks to our (very patient) DM @ianthegreen.bsky.social, and stalwart companions @sarahreesbrennan.bsky.social @grainneobrien.bsky.social @natural20.bsky.social, and of course, all the sinister voices, couldn't have died without you

Got a kid who loves fantasy, horror and invention? Want some tips on encouraging their creativity and writing? Come to my event this Sunday in @ifldublin.bsky.social as we master the art of monsters! ilfdublin.com/whats-on/fes...

I wrote a spec Who script (mostly as a writing sample, you can't actually submit Who scripts to Who) about Yaz, a POC who believes in systemic change, & her frustration w/ the Doctor, an incredibly powerful individual who shows up, blows everything up, and rarely checks in to see if her changes last

What being three chapters away from finishing a draft looks like...

For Sarah, it was putting 'come with me if you want to live' on the front of the wedding pamphlet. For me it was the kitbashed Warhammer miniatures we used as cake toppers

Just a heads-up if you are a or have a Leaving Cert student in your life - I am doing a whole series of tips on the English paper over on Tiktok, with deep dives on pretty much every aspect of the paper. I hope people find it useful... #LeavingCert #LC2025 www.tiktok.com/@daveruddenw...

Much like misogyny, they really want to push the idea that it's 'already solved, nothing to be done, can't change it now' because that means they can just keep getting away with AI theft. Ursula LeGuin's 'divine right of kings' quote comes to mind.

Talked to Dan Abnett about writing, he did this lovely thing of including me as a fellow writer - he had a lot of great wisdom to share but always prefaced it with a 'well you know this' or 'I'm sure you've come across this too.' When a hero makes you feel like a co-worker, it's just very nice!

A lovely write-up for Conn from Ruth Concannon in the @irishexaminer.bsky.social, highlighting children's books about determination and imagination! www.irishexaminer.com/lifestyle/ar...

I was delighted by Thunderbolts! Great cast, great action, tons of heart, great jokes. Not quite as out-of-the-box-surprise-smash as GOTG, but similar charm and energy. Are we... back? I would like to be back.

Companies! Not too long ago a rainbow sticker indicated your store was a safe place for LGBTQ people. Time to start doing the same specifically for trans people. A little trans flag sticker in your window. I’d make a point to shop there.

The UK's political and media class has spent years heaping sadism on trans people, and they want to do the same in Ireland next. Calls for civility and calm won't cut it. We need to fight them tooth and nail. www.irishexaminer.com/lifestyle-co...

Excellent dedication in the new @daveruddenwrites.bsky.social

If you are a marginalized author writing books about characters from marginalized groups. I need you to know that it may look hopeless right now, but your books are needed now more than ever.

One thing, I do feel allegory is powerful and important, and the X-Men are often (not always) a great example of that. Sometimes, the reader is doing the heavy lifting in this. It's just that I also feel marginalized people need representation IN CANON and not as robots or aliens sometimes. 1/

Publised tomorrow 24th from Gill books is the first in a new series from @daveruddenwrites.bsky.social - Conn of the Dead, Illustrated throughout by @aeadraws.bsky.social , published by Gill Books. The first in the Tales of Darkisle !

I wrote a piece on my ADHD diagnosis, the circumstances around seeking treatment for it, and how complicated it is to figure out what's 'you' and what's a 'condition.' (spoiler - it's all you, but that doesn't mean it's not a condition) www.independent.ie/life/health-...

When you hear people talk about the "trans agenda", this is pretty much it

I would like to point out that in Ireland, the law has allowed people to self-identify for about ten years, and it’s been . . . fine. Society has not collapsed, public toilets are not battle zones, Harry Potter isn’t banned. People just got on with their lives. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70...

Why call it a 'conclave' when you can call it VatiCon

Please share this mentorship opportunity with any publishing industry hopefuls you know in the north of the country and Scotland. Proud to be a mentor again this year www.childrensbooksnorth.co.uk/blog/childre...

I want to pick up some trans rights pins, has anyone got any links to their favourites?

Today, thousands gathered across the country - from Hastings to London to Glasgow - to say: we will always stand with trans people. Trans rights are human rights. 🏳️‍⚧️

Siobhan McSweeney (Sister Michael) has also been incandescent on her Insta stories about the UK anti-trans laws. Derry Girls is Ireland's best export in so many ways.

Parliament Square is FULL today - people spilling over into the road - thousands of people turned out to defend trans rights: trans people and c1s allies here to show transphobes that they haven’t won, not by a long way 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 #TransRightsAreHumanRights

Trans rights are human rights. Trans women are women. Trans men are men. Today, everyday. Solidarity. ❤️‍🔥
