Also if you feel strongly about Eric Adams, you should call your city councilmember to express that and ask for their position. You’d be surprised. Hochul’s stance is highly disappointing but it doesn’t come from nowhere. Press all your electeds. City elections are in 5 months. Ask candidates too.

One of my tools as a critic had been a Twitter list called, "Top Journalism Linkers." Designed so that I could survey the space. It was the first thing I read in the morning. When I left it had 6.8K users. Over the weekend I rebuilt it for Bluesky. You can subscribe. bsky.app/profile/jayr...

www.thedailybeast.com/more-than-80... I predict (#prediction): he and musk discredit the $ (w/ their dopey gold-seeking adventure) & push for a US ecoin. Then centralize it (making it more fiat than fiat) —and only then realize its only good in US. Er, something like that.

The great David Johansen of the NY DOLLS has been battling stage 4 cancer for the past few years, unable to work. This being America, he is having a hard times paying for medical care. A fundraiser has been set up through Sweet Relief; more info below. www.sweetrelief.org/davidjohanse...

Interesting: the State Department’s procurement forecast detailing a $400 million order for "armored Tesla" has now been edited to "armored electric vehicles." The document shows the edit was made tonight at 9:12 p.m. -- after it was highlighted in reports

Ya know. He’s not wrong. Why have we just accepted that a lot of our apps suck and nobody’s really talking about it. And while we’re at it, why do these companies get to collect our data and keep it forever to use however they want? Their data collection is helping the coup rn

This is from a 2020 presentation. Now it's just the chaos we live in, and no such description is needed.

Retropolis thrived on weekends, and a big part of that was the willingness of weekend editor Tim Curran to put history stories on the homepage and in the Sunday paper. He was the perfect leader, equal parts welcoming & chill, sardonic & bold. I will miss him. www.washingtonpost.com/obituaries/2...

BREAKING The Trump administration is maintaining a funding freeze at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in defiance of two federal court orders. The ongoing freeze was confirmed by an NIH official and internal correspondence reviewed by Popular Information.

This might be the most nakedly corrupt document I’ve seen on DOJ letterhead — and I wrote a history of Watergate!

The NIH move to cut funding for “indirects” landed a few hours ago and my phone hasn’t stopped buzzing with messages from researchers, scientific leaders and others warning of dire consequences for academia and the biomedical enterprise. Here’s a txt from someone who personally funds some research:

A federal judge issued an emergency order early Saturday prohibiting Elon Musk’s U.S. DOGE Service from accessing personal and financial data on millions of Americans kept at the Treasury Department, noting the possibility for irreparable harm.

1. Show up. Go to the places Musk is taking over, bring cameras, demand to find out what's going on and where it breaks the law. 2. Refuse to allow standard business to continue unimpeded. Deny unanimous consent, delay votes, etc. 3. Be public about how illegal all of this is 4. Lay out a plan

fuck yes

Having watched with growing alarm the developments of the last 24 and 36 hours in Washington, I thought I’d take a stab at how the US media would cover this story if it was happening in a foreign country. Here’s that story that should be written this weekend: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/musk-s-jun...

Hey look, open corruption of the exact sort that federal laws are intended to prevent.

Here’s @peterbakernyt.bsky.social, writing about Trump’s evidence for plane-crash theories. “he did not know” “he did not know” “he did not know” “he did not know” www.nytimes.com/2025/01/31/u...

The WaPo article referenced below doesn't mention that Musk is trying to launch a payment system inside X. Seems a pretty clear motivation. Worth journalistic investigation, at least.

Former Secretary of Transportation--who was not on The Real World or Road Rules--weighs in on the President's efforts to blame the fatal air traffic accident on DEI.

A Food and Drug Administration project to promote diversity in clinical studies of cancer treatments was removed from the agency's website, as the Trump administration halts DEI initiatives.

www.cjr.org/analysis/pau... my gosh THAT sounds familiar

Trump's freezing of all civil rights cases at the DOJ is not part of an anti-DEI agenda, but an anti-civil rights agenda. DOJ was *founded* to protect Black rights during Reconstruction. That this difference is unclear speaks to the success of conservative propagandists and the failures of liberals.

One small thing you can do when responding to concerns like these from a friend or family member is be explicit with them that their information sources misled them intentionally—that they’re untrustworthy and their efforts to mislead people are contemptible.
