I'm up early to capture the Moon with Venus, but so are the clouds. πŸ” πŸ§ͺ

I've had to stop my exposures early. Clouds have made their usual appearance. πŸ” πŸ§ͺ #astrophotography

Completed my Mars and the Beehive exposures at 50mm focal length. Now started some more, this time at a longer (random) focal length. πŸ” πŸ§ͺ #astrophotography

Tawny Owls have moved into the grounds of this Eryri hotel after our retrofitting project to turn the hotel from a light polluter to a Dark Sky Friendly one! πŸ¦‰ It brings me so much joy to see wildlife reclaim spaces so quickly with a few simple changes to lighting πŸ’‘ @darkskyintl.bsky.social

I've just been outside. My sky is still clear. Not dark enough for pictures though. In about 20 minutes I'll start some Mars and the Beehive exposures. πŸ” πŸ§ͺ #astrophotography

Catch a rare Lunar-Planetary grouping Friday morning. Excellent Universe Today observing guide by David Dickinson. Includes one of my pictures. πŸ” πŸ§ͺ www.universetoday.com/articles/cat...

It's 8.20pm. My sky is clear. Hopefully will stay that way when darkness falls. Mars and the Beehive await. πŸ” πŸ§ͺ #astrophotography

We're thrilled to launch a simple yet powerful tool to help you create more beautiful, functional, and dark sky-friendly lighting at home. Whether you own a home, rent, or live in an apartment, you can make lasting changes in your neighbourhood or community. darksky.org/get-involved...

Mars is now appearing seriously close to the Beehive Cluster. At their closest 4-5 May. Brilliant binoculars and photographic opportunities. πŸ” πŸ§ͺ

getting some clear skies! here’s the globular cluster in hercules (M13) from last night

Light at night affects more than sleep. It disrupts nocturnal animals, bird migrations, and pollinators. Darkness matters β€” for all of us. #DarkSkyWeek #ProtectTheNight #day4

Just like to mention tomorrow morning there will be no smiley face in the sky. The Slivery Waning Crescent Moon will appear close to Venus and Saturn, but not particularly spectacular. πŸ” πŸ§ͺ

A bit of a reprocess of last night's Mars and the Beehive pic. πŸ” πŸ§ͺ 🎨 #astrophotography #SciArt #photography #StormHour #ThePhotoHour

On the morning of Friday 25th April the slivery Waning Crescent Moon will appear close to Venus. Look east from around 5am. πŸ” πŸ§ͺ

Took a little walk over to the giant #nasa Goddard cleanroom yesterday where the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is looking great 😎 It’s assembled and going through testing before its scheduled launch late next year! It will study dark energy, dark matter (ahem @pearljam.com), exoplanets & more!

I've started some Mars with the Beehive exposures, although clouds are hanging around. πŸ” πŸ§ͺ #astrophotography

My sky had been clear. Emphasis on the word 'had.' Will look out again in about 30 minutes. πŸ” πŸ§ͺ #astrophotography

This #rainbow is writ large in the night sky. It is the zodiacal light, seen against Taurus in this #photograph by the PUNCH mission. The color "sheen" indicates polarization of the light: hue tells direction, saturation tells degree of polarization. πŸ§ͺπŸ”βš›οΈ (whtwnd.com/punch-missio...)

It's 8.26pm. My sky is clearing nicely. Hopefully capture Mars with the Beehive later. πŸ” πŸ§ͺ #astrophotography

The Pinwheel Galaxy

Although the peak of the Lyrids meteor shower was this morning still a good chance of seeing a few tonight. πŸ” πŸ§ͺ

Still catching up with data I've captured over the last few weeks. This is Mars through my 8" SCT a few weeks ago, on a night of quite good seeing. The planet shows as a gibbous phase as it was only 2 weeks from Eastern quadrature (which occurred yesterday, 21st Apr) πŸ”

Mission to boldly grow food in space labs blasts off. πŸ” πŸ§ͺ www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Ooh! NASA’s Lucy spacecraft flew by asteroid Donaldjohanson yesterday. They just released the images. Look at that cool space potato! πŸ”πŸ§ͺπŸ₯” science.nasa.gov/image-articl...

Final reminder the peak of the Lyrid meteor shower is tonight. Just before dawn for the UK. πŸ” πŸ§ͺ #astrophotography

On this day in 2021 I was capturing a Waxing Gibbous Moon. πŸ” πŸ§ͺ 🎨 #astrophotography #SciArt #photography #StormHour #ThePhotoHour

Been a bit of a rainy day. Tonight no chance of pictures. Still, had luck yesterday. πŸ” πŸ§ͺ #astrophotography

This Sunday my niece will be running in the London Marathon. Originally in memory of my father, now my mother too.

The 'Dark Shark Nebula' in the constellation Cepheus

In Globular star cluster M3, around 500,000 stars are crowding within just 125 light years. This #astrophotography image taken with my #Celestron #Origin lets you recognize a mixture of old, red giant stars and β€œblue stragglers”, which were formed by mass exchange or even mergers between two stars.

The International Space Station made a transit of the Sun today. Thanks to transit-finder.com I was prepared but clouds virtually ruined the show. There were few frames I could salvage and process to record the event, my first since April 2020. #astronomy #astrophotography @stormhour.bsky.social
