Quick reminder that in classic Latin, the letter "C" was always pronounced as a hard "K." The language had no "soft C" sound as seen in English with, say, "c" before "e" or "i." You can see evidence of this in the German word "kaiser," from Caesar, itself orig. probably pronounced like [keh-zar.]
