In a larger trajectory towards socialism & in the spirit of harm reduction could Winnipeg imagine a ‘commons’ that can be supported, one that clearly does not meet ‘code’ (so called health and safety shuts all sorts of things down making it worse) but supports unhoused situations?

I suppose if I had to preach a gospel applicable to society as a whole it would be ‘Less and Better’. I thought about the Mennonite More with Less but whowee that gets abused in Mennonite institutions.

The lyrics of Jesus Freak sure land a little different now.

Saw a guy with a goatee yesterday. I suppose we’re due.

ie to steal from the public, siphoning education funds into grift contracts undemocratically awarded by non-educator boards

I tried watching Guy Maddin’s Rumours (now on Crave). Friends, I couldn’t do it. The humour and commentary just seemed lazy. Any take out there that might give me a fresh perspective?

It's that glorious time of year! When the Manitoba Library Association - Prison Libraries Committee along with the BarNone Prison Visiting Rideshare, hosts it's annual Book & Bake Sale! Oh - did I mention it's pay-what-you want?! Cash only please! See you there!

Skimming some Philip Goodchild and found my eye drawn to this line, "Even under conditions of full emancipation, labour remains a sacrifice." Our life is lived through offering, no day can be kept from being poured out. This is of course why the compulsion of the tecno-oligarchs are so utterly evil.

I'm basically happy with the person I am and the way I orient my life. When I think about all the paths of the people I've known, I wonder if they all feel the same way. This thought sort of blows my mind.

It was on this day, May 27, 500 years ago that Thomas Müntzer was executed for his role in the German Peasants' Rebellion. Müntzer was a Reformation minister who would not side with Luther and the Reformation's quick re-appropriation of power in Germany.

Until the poor and imprisoned tell us it’s good news it’s not the gospel.

Reading Lame Dear’s visions, “I didn’t want a steady job in an office or factory. I thought myself too good for that, not because I was stuck up but simply because any human being is too good for that kind of no-life, even white people.

Canadian geese are ruthless, fending off bulls and eagles and this morning gathering around to mock (honk at) a guy doing slow deliberate lunges on the riverwalk.

Guys even Bloomberg is rightly noting Canada's election was a choice for conservatism in the face of US threats. We don't lose anything by recognizing this and being accordingly vigilant, but we do risk a lot by suggesting we're in for a boldly progressive period of governance.

I hedge basically everything. I just edited 'is' to 'really does seem to be'.

Liberals underestimate how irritating their "I can never be in the wrong as long as I maintain a measured and professional tone" thing can be. Or maybe they don't? That would at least be a saving grace, if they were doing it on purpose.

Just a reminder to my fellow Christians it is okay to prefer your hell harrowed this Easter morning.

I do sometimes wonder what the 'sound-byte' response is for politicians who are asked 'how many genders are there'? What might be the faults or limitations in saying something like, "Life is reproduced along the binary of gender and lived along the spectrum."

Someone should be talking about how many gigantic jails we’d need to be building to enable a “3 strikes” policy. Never mind that it’s unconstitutional. #Debate2025

Well folks I might as well start plugging. I have many thoughts and feelings tied up in this project as it is, in many ways, my view from midlife wrestling with this stuff for a long time. We are hoping to have it released for the start of summer. Many thanks and acknowledgments to come.

"Fascism is a cult of the archaic completely fitted out by modern technology. Its degenerate ersatz of myth has been revived in the spectacular context of the most modern means of conditioning and illusion." - Guy Debord

Finally watched Sing Sing and enjoyed it but I couldn’t help thinking that Colman Domingo’s acting felt too much like Denzel Washington in The Hurricane.

I don’t normally like movies about decadence. I hated Saltburn. I found the decadence in Anora flat though I did like the ending. Usually the point is to critique decadence which is all well and good but it should feel like more than a bedazzled strawman.

"The dialectic of freedom means developing new constraints. Freedom from the Other (society of external authority) switches into narcissistic self-relation, which occasions many of the psychic disturbances afflicting today's achievement-subject." - Byung-Chul Han

I am a socialist in that I believe any democracy must work from a place of relative/basic material equity. I am a communist in so far as I attempt to live the maxim of from each according to their abilities to each according to their needs.
