“Trump has been quite open about this – he has been clear that he sees financial opportunities for the normalisation of relations between the US and Russia." Lewis Goodall explains what Trump hopes to gain from aligning so closely with Putin

Obviously, Trump would reject such a plan as sketched below but that's the point: there is no plan that Trump could advocate that will be acceptable to any reasonable person, to Ukraine, or to Europe's interests. If a breach must be made - and it must - then let it be done for the right reasons.

Europe needs to disengage from reliance on US tech and software as quickly as possible, both at civilian and military/government levels, and build its own. Easier said than done, of course, but the risks to extortion and blackmail are too high to live with the status quo.

Completely predictable from the US, which is now a gangster-mafia state where the rule of law does not apply where the administration's interests are concerned, either internally or externally. Companies from other countries should think very carefully about how they do business there.

Starmer and Macron should offer their own peace plan to Trump, given his criticisms. Something like: - Complete withdrawal of Russia from Ukraine; - Russian financial assets to Ukraine as reparation; - Repatriation of abducted Ukrainians; - Recognition of Ukraine's full sovereign rights.

I'm not a fan of conspiracy theories. So let's just call this one Trump ecosystem back-scratching, combined with Trump's usual demand for loyalty to him above everything else.

Zelensky is perhaps the defining figure of our age. Brave, ingenious, pragmatic and defined by his convictions. They hate him because he kills fascists.

Oh wow, what a crazy random happenstance.

All of which is true. However, you're a president, not a journalist. So: what's your policy response?

The Young Conservatives were once the UK's largest political youth movement. The party had thriving organizations in most universities and strong links with business, the professions & farming. It's not biology or culture that's made them toxic with the working-age population. It's their choices.
