the moderate position is “people need to go to prison” for the deportation of people to el salvadoran concentration camps. the radical position is something akin to guillotines on the washington mall

Musk's DOGE goons physically dragged a high-ranking Social Security executive from his desk for not going along with their plan to list more than 6,000 migrants as dead despite being alive. www.thedailybeast.com/doge-goons-p...

Darth Vader being “gracious” and “not fake.” Everything we’ve ever not liked about him is absent in this scene.

This is a concession by the U.S. government that its “arrangement” with El Salvador is irrevocable. To me this has to be grounds to argue that the arrangement itself is unconstitutional under the Fifth and Eighth Amendments

It's so funny how they rant and rave against Marxists and what not, but man, do they sound like failed Soviet leaders. "You have been reassigned from hospital doctor to toaster maker. Please go to factory at 5 a.m. for shift."

Here is an up to date list of Big Law collaborators along with how much in free legal services they have pledged to Trump's causes. Paul Weiss 40M Cadwalader 100M Milbank 100M Skadden Arps 100M Willkie Farr 100M A&O Shearman 125M Kirkland & Ellis 125M Latham & Watkins 125M Simpson Thacher 125M

Don't overlook this: Trump is leaving Abrego Garcia to rot in a foreign gulag even though the admin can always bring him back and *retry him for deportation in a lawful way.* That they won't do this shows their case against him is nonsense. New piece from me: newrepublic.com/article/1939...

This seems right, and all of this is WRONG.

There's not enough backlash. They shouldn't have a moment's peace.

🧵 We got a pretty nasty load of bad news yesterday on the future of Social Security. It's not hyperbole to say we've passed the point of no return on Trump/DOGE's efforts to kill the agency...

It is also worth noting that Gamergate started in 2014. So someone who is 30 now was about 19 at the time, and has spent their entire adult life swimming in the most toxic internet environment. It seems that women saw that and fought against it, and men embraced it.

Hernandez: This administration wants you to believe that the reason you can't buy eggs is because of your immigrant neighbor, they want you to blame trans folks for your troubles, blame unhoused people for the housing crisis. You know what I say to that? Bullshit.

I used to select Dem primary candidates based on policy. Now I will aggressively try to destroy any Dem who says "we need to look forward not backward" and fervently support anyone who says "I will see these motherfuckers prosecuted and jailed if it's the last thing I do."

It's also the day for my favorite meme! If this aging Klingon warrior can get it right, so can anyone.

It gets worse: The order found that the administration was covertly withholding millions in FEMA funds from blue states.

"Whoever is elected the 48th president won’t be able to easily rebuild what Donald Trump is busy destroying. Countries can and will move on without the United States. Their firms will establish new supply chains and pursue other markets." www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

“I’ve been disappeared because a rainforest killing plagiarism machine picked me out of a hat”, coming to a dystopia near you

Am reading a non-fiction book about the language of fascism/authoritarianism and Trump is definitely using the fascist playbook. The book is Erasing History: How Fascists Rewrite History to Control the Future by Jason Stanley. Highly recommend.

Just in case those of us fighting for democracy in court didn't need another challenge, Big Law turning collaborators is here and growing. My firm and others continue to fight. We will never back down. We will never bend a knee. We will never obey.

They’ll do it in a few high profile cases to set examples. People will say, “No way this holds up in court.” Maybe. But we now know the plan: they’ll do it first, then dare the courts to stop them. And this too will be very difficult for courts to undo. This is end of democracy stuff.

Yes, contractors cost more, perform worse, and are harder to manage. But they can be fired at will without collecting benefits, and most importantly this will allow them to sell off these government agencies to the private sector for nothing like they wanted all along (like Russia did in the 1990s).

Absolutely one helluva cover. 😀

Today it’s on The Onion. Next week it’ll be on WaPo and won’t be funny anymore.

“they were polite to me so they can’t be a monster” is the most consistent failure of elite society

We begin our coverage of USS Enterprise bridge overhead displays in season 3 of #StarTrekTOS with these images from the season's first episode (production order!): "The Spectre of the Gun". The displays are generally very dark this season, that blue display, as shall be seen, being a real exception.

Democracy isn’t dying in darkness it’s being dismantled at the hands of the Supreme Court of North Carolina. @allisonjriggs.bsky.social won this election fair and square back in November. Her opponent is a petulant Confederate cosplayer who can’t handle losing. Concede Jefferson Griffin.

On Friday, April 11, traders placed large, aggressive bets that Apple’s stock would jump within days. They bought contracts that would only be profitable if the stock moved up fast. Hours later, the White House quietly announced a major policy shift. data-and-politics.ghost.io/173-returns-...

AOC is calling out colleagues for stock trades before tariffs were paused: “Any member of Congress who purchased stocks in the last 48 hrs should probably disclose that now … It’s time to ban insider trading in Congress.” AOC is absolutely right. More here: www.dworkinsubstack.com/p/saturdays-...

Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) has a bill to return tariff authority to Congress. If it were to pass, the purposeless tariffs would end. Speaker Johnson is blocking it. Call your member of Congress, R or D, & urge a discharge petition on the bill, which forces a vote. U.S. Capitol switchboard: 202-224-3121.

I just want democrats who hate republicans as much as they hate us

Extraordinary institutional failure across the board. Legislature, judiciary, parties, media… American institutions were weaker than I could have guessed.

Hey remember when we found out that top national security officials were using commercial messaging apps to plan operations, rather than secure government channels, so they could illegally sidestep official records acts? So long ago, lost in the mists of time.

Remember: algorithms are never your friends.

Surely the "donations" to Trump’s inauguration by Apple, Nvidia and Dell had nothing to do with them getting tariff exemptions www.barrons.com/articles/tar...

yeah man, please make my 85 year old great aunt prove her citizenship to vote in rural georgia, this definitely isn’t reminiscent of anything in the american past

The U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services has repeatedly claimed: “If you’re healthy, it’s almost impossible to die from an infectious disease in modern times.” That is dangerously false. www.medscape.com/viewarticle/...

Hours ago, @politico.com revealed that DOGE is working with DHS on automating mass deportation efforts — likely explaining why many US citizens, green card holders, and even a Canadian (in Canada) got threatening emails last night terminating “your parole” and telling them to leave the US in 7 days.

My copies for Space Usagi arrived ✨💙 I like how it printed

Musk’s Doge fired self-drive car safety experts at agency that regulates Tesla www.ft.com/content/ede5...

THREAD: Some folks have asked why Donald doesn’t just pick up the phone and bring Abrego Garcia back. Besides the cruelty, what’s the point of defying the lower court’s order? Basically, he wants to see if he can get away with it. 1/
