‘Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors: A Search for Who We Are’ by Carl Sagan & Ann Druyan (1992). I bought this book in 2014 from a little book shop at the lower end of Chapel Street that had a resident cat (not the same cat pictured). Finally got around to reading it (the book. Read the cat ages ago)

Gotta hand it to the North Koreans. They know how to do a military parade. By comparison this American one is kinda lacklustre. Looks like something you’d see at Disneyland

Remember when the President of the United States was young enough to go for a morning jog?

Yesterday we said goodbye to my Uncle Richard. He’s the uncle I saw the least, as we only lived in the same city at the same time briefly. He was in Sydney when I was growing up & then just after he came back to Adelaide, I moved to Melbourne. Probably also why I have so few photos of us together.

This is next level George Costanza

The tape Rhys found here that we looked at in Ep 58 was broadcast 50 years ago today!

At this café you can have a flat white with any amount of sugar you like. As long as it’s not none.

I’ve only been to New York once for 3 days in 2005 but on that trip, while riding on top of an open tour bus past Rockefeller Center, suddenly there’s Brian Wilson from The Beach Boys performing right there on the street. The band was doing the sound check for a TV broadcast the next day.

Word on the street is the ABC is axing their long-running Q&A program. Certainly it had its heyday in the early 2010s when they put tweets on the bottom of the screen & before the politicians knew how to game the format. Here are some of my finest hot takes with no context:

Very proud of my Mum, Dr Carolyn Lawlor-Smith who has been awarded an Order of Australia Medal in today’s King’s Birthday Honours List for services to General Practice and Community Health.

TL;DR: Read!

If one is censured by a nation's Parliament for behaviour officially found to be "corrosive of trust in government", and is referred to an anti-corruption commission for misleading its Cabinet about the "crude and cruel" Robodebt scheme, how is one then eligible for said country's highest honour?

I am slowly transitioning to a new laptop with Windows 11 and I don’t like it one bit.

Happy birthday Luke. Wherever you are I hope they have The Simpsons and Grand Theft Auto.

My favourite gag of the season

Great time for koalas to start doing crime and blaming it on humans

Jon Olb is one of Australia’s great TV comedy directors (Mad as Hell, TAYG, Tonight Live, Fast Forward, etc.) and he’s just launched a new podcast ‘Entertainment Insider’. First ep is a fascinating chat with Steve Vizard: www.buzzsprout.com/2467394/epis...

How’s this for a quote: “You can literally sell shit in a can, wrapped in piss, covered in human skin, for a billion dollars if the story’s right, because people will buy it.” www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

Had a chat to Chris Taylor on the radio about @vhsrevue.bsky.social things a while back. Now up on the YouTube channel: youtu.be/uYSTQDaHuig?... #vhsrevue #vhs

Before online dating, there was landline dating! Some late night phone dating ads from 1995 #vhsrevue

In this fractured online world, sometimes you miss news. I’ve only just heard that Jane Brownrigg passed away last year. She was a familiar face during my time at Radio Adelaide & around the community media scene in Melbourne. This is a very fitting tribute. radiotoday.com.au/special-trib...

Gonna miss @latingle.bsky.social on ABC 730. In particular, her regular summaries and analysis during the recent federal election were a real joy to watch. #auspol
