r-squared value of how nice a trade association's giveaway pen is at an energy conference vs. how likely the trade association is up to no good has to be at least .90.

End of an era. youtu.be/BMzeznCyX8w?...

Here's the advice I think I'm going to start giving to new parents: Think of the most insufferably annoying trait exhibited by each of your parents that has dogged you your entire life. Okay, good. You are that now. There's no stopping it, don't bother trying.

When New England residents are dealing with power outages tonight and tomorrow with arctic cold putting your pipes at risk of freezing, I want you to remember that Marissa Gillett & PURA is pushing our utility companies to be prepared and work quickly to restore power. This is why they want her gone

This whole situation where the publicly owned utility companies are doing everything possible to push out the first regulator who has held them accountable is terrifying. Anyone who thinks the answer is not confirming Marissa Gillett is playing a dangerous game of chicken with our wallets & grid.

For you visual learners: Here's how new EPA chief Lee Zeldin got paid by both sides in the ESG fight—he simultaneously was working for BlackRock AND for the right-wing forces waging war *against* BlackRock. Check out the full @fieldnotes.co investigation: fieldnotes.co/investigatio...

Can't spell Spartacus without AUSA

What is this “brazen, anti-democratic campaign” against Chair Gillett and PURA? Here’s a thread🧵 of *some* of their bad-faith shit over the last couple of years. Please add any stories or moments I’m leaving out!

Can't spell Spartacus without AUSA.

You can disagree with me on every political issue under the sun, but if you read the the Sassoon and Scotten letters, and then the Bove letter, and can't see the difference between courage and cowardice, integrity and immorality, principles and their perversion... go touch some grass.

I hope they assign Danielle Sassoon's letter, and this one, in schools one day.

Yes, and also if you just want to pay less for electricity and gas every month. It's so unheard of for a utility commissioner to order a rate decrease. Basically never happens. Marissa Gillett did it. If you want affordable energy, she's one-of-a-kind best in class.

What's the grace period on how long I get to use newborn brain as an excuse for stuff I've always done that's just kinda dumb?

NEW: "A @fieldnotes.co investigation reveals that new EPA chief Lee Zeldin was paid to take part in an off-the-books lobbying campaign last year on behalf of BlackRock, the financial firm conservatives have long targeted in their ongoing war on ESG investing."

This is 100% true. Utilities are in an all out war to stop Chair Gillett’s renomination. We NEED bold leadership at PUCs.

Dems just spent three months flagellating themselves for losing a national election over rising costs of living, and Dem legislators in Conn. are now considering firing the only utility regulator in the country who’s had the spine to stand up to Wall St-owned monopolies to LOWER PEOPLE’S BILLS.

The most important climate fight in the country right now is in Connecticut. If the investor-owned utilities there succeed in their naked attempt to knock off their top regulator, the chilling effect on other PUC commissioners' willing to challenge utility capture nationally could be devastating.

Reminder: Before Connecticut's monopoly utilities began a two-year campaign to try to smear and assassinate the career of their top regulator, one of their CEOs allegedly "seemed to have extended to Gillett a vague offer of future career opportunities." energyandpolicy.org/as-rate-case...

regulated monopoly utility agents smear their regulator in retaliation for not just rubber stamping whatever the utility asks for; stock prices surge! use media to unseat activist regulator to ensure state-guaranteed profits for rich investors. cool playbook

The thing people should know about this headline, which is the culmination of a year's long effort by Connecticut's investor-owned utilities to smear and unseat their hard-nosed regulator, is what happened to their stock price the moment after it dropped.

Bringing this 2022 chestnut over here. Hey, it's still true! Whispers: There's a commission in your state of 3 - 5 people who can shut down all the fossil plants and pipelines and replace them with clean electricity, and SCOTUS can't stop them.

“This is the worst legislation like this that I’ve ever seen,” said Daniel Tait, director of the Energy and Policy Institute, a watchdog group that tracks and reviews utility legislation nationwide. I meant it. Follow along for some of the worst provisions. 🧵 www.arkansasonline.com/news/2025/fe...

One thing this excellent NYT graphic illustrates well is how much the coal retirement backsliding problem is really being led by three companies: Duke, Southern and Berkshire Hathaway. www.nytimes.com/interactive/... Great data from Global Energy Monitor @cshearer19.bsky.social
