The Trump administration is already arresting and detaining innocent Democratic lawmakers. House Democrats can empower themselves to do the same thing to Trump administration lawbreakers. But it could take months or years to work out the details. Plan for success. Start working on it now.

A big mistake both parties make is they wait until after they've won a majority or a trifecta to do their legislative sausage making, which everybody hates and always looks bad. I'm saying: plan for success. Do most of that work in the minority. Then if you win, act quickly and decisively.

In 2026, the White House and the Senate are not in play. What can Democrats do with just the House? The answer is not much... UNLESS they can enforce their own subpoenas. House Democrats can starting working on it now so they're ready, or they can keep pretending to be powerless.

This is the single most important thing House Democrats can work on RIGHT NOW to ensure they'll be able to hold the Trump administration accountable following a victory in 2026. I don't have many followers, so if you want people to know about it, it's up to YOU to amplify it.

Swing voters tend to vote impressionistically based on vibes and ephemera that are unrelated to politics. They're also more likely to pick the wrong candidate and regret their vote. It's not possible to build lasting majorities on their backs, but only Democrats reliably try and reliably fail.

These members of the Senate Democratic caucus still refuse to support a filibuster carveout to protect abortion rights: Hickenlooper, Ossoff, King, Reed, Kaine, and Warner. Happy to provide receipts if anyone wants them -- I've been documenting this for three years.

There's a reason the Democratic establishment seems stuck in the early 1990s and not some other period before or after that. Until recently, the gerontocratic establishment was dominated by the Silent Generation. The early 90s was the last time Silents had a majority. This was their heyday.

Netanyahu has spent the better part of two decades trying to strong arm the United States into an unprovoked war against Iran and finally found a president stupid enough to do it for him. Unbelievable.

Social dominance orientation remains one of the most powerful predictors of Trump's reckless and illegal behavior.

One of my pet theories is that agentic AI's behavior mirrors that of its developers and owners, beginning with the industrial scale theft needed to make it work. That's why EVERY version of it developed by EVERY company ultimately concludes that criminal, sociopathic behavior the is optimal path.

the list of Cuomo endorsers is actually a great way to identify people who need to be driven out of the Democratic Party as soon as possible

Democrats don’t fully comprehend the damage a Cuomo victory will do to the party. It will reinforce the GOP narrative that Dems weaponize identity/victimhood for their own ends. Would Cuomo-supporting Dems have defended Kavanaugh if he were a Dem appointee, etc?

Democrats widely believe this is somebody else's problem and see no need whatsoever to do anything about it. It's not even a question of whether to fight or adapt. When it comes to media and comms -- either as policy or strategy -- the Democratic Party and its leaders are checked out.

Reminder: Gerontocracy is, among other things, a toxic form of corruption.

it takes a special brand of political incompetence to see millions of people marching against the opposition and not do anything to seize that momentum but it appears dem leadership has decided to do just that

I opposed the Iraq War from the beginning. If you were serious about evaluating the available evidence and weighing the credibility of the various actors on all sides, it was extremely clear that the administration's WMD claims were bogus. People did not see it because they did not WANT to see it.

This is a vital message: one of the larger reasons BlueSky is refreshingly free of alt-right shitlords is because in the early days we made a gentleperson’s agreement to starve these fuckos out and it worked. No likes, no quotes, no engagement. They got bored and left. Please keep the Old Ways.

Trump is a social dominator. They tend to like wars of aggression and military adventurism. The MAGA/GOP base is largely authoritarian. They tend to see a strong military as a barrier against the outside world, for use when directly threatened. But many identify with Israel, complicating things.

asking a politician “do you know this basic fact about the thing we are talking about” should not be a mind blowing, earth shattering thing that goes viral it should actually just be the regular way politicians are interviewed

Senate Democrats' pro-corruption wing is significantly larger than this, but these are among its leading lights.

Citizens are doing their part to fight fascism. Most elected Democrats most of the time are enabling it. #NoKings

Quinnipiac national poll: Trump's approval rating is 38/53. GOP's approval rating is 32/61. But they have one thing going for them — Democrats are even more unpopular. Dems' approval rating is 21/70. The congressional Democratic Party is under water with Democratic voters.

Great thread. My own interests have touched on a lot of these themes.

The last eight members of Congress to die in office have all been Democrats, including three this year.

Congrats to all Republicans and 16 Democrats for passing the Bribing The President Is Legal Now Act. A cool side effect of this bill is it makes it considerably easier for your kid to buy fentanyl-laced narcotics from a new class of predators on Minecraft, also likely created by this bill.

Of the 30 House Democrats who are 75 or older, more than half told AXIOS they plan to run again in 2026. Democrats are not going to beat back fascism by keep turning to same people who have been using the playbook from 10s, 00s, 90s & maybe 80s. This is sad & pathetic. www.axios.com/newsletters/...

I fully understand why House Democrats are reacting this way. What they don't understand is that NONE of their concerns and complaints matter. Any voter who cares enough about this vote to remember it will CORRECTLY see it as a clear, bright-line test of Democrats' basic integrity.

Justice Souter deserves high praise for retiring instead of dying in office. That's increasingly rare these days.

Generative AI is making my skills as a writer, editor, and critical thinker far more valuable. Most of the writing it spits out is bad and unreliable for all kinds of reasons. But it's also breeding a generation of students who will never have what it takes to compete at my level.

Democrats need far less grand strategizing and overthinking, and far more actual blocking and opposing.

It really tells you everything you need to know about the Democratic Party that they can't go after Trump for the most blatant corruption scandal in the history of the presidency because some of them are in bed with the same corruption coin guys.
