estimation of ed sheeran just skyrocketed

Given proven US unpredictability, should Australia look to diversify its core defence partnerships? Left field, but has anyone considered a stable European power with a reputation for defence engineering?

very relieved to hear a loved one has been approved for the ndis. I proposed the application, supported, cajoled & funded 16 months of appointments, letters, forms, bureaucratic wrangling… what a mess. without resources (financial, social, cultural), you won’t get in.

This is how the NYTimes views the deal (just in case you think Americans view AUKUS as a partnership or about Australia's defence)

hahaha pathetic

The first French built sub was scheduled to be laid down (actual construction started) 2 years ago.

France's ambassador Thebault on 3 November 2021 on Australia's "giant leap into the unknown": "The Australian Government is abandoning a solid cooperation with well-established parameters for a yet-unspecified project, without even a solid transition ... 'Good luck,' wished President Macron."

To wit:

this but unironically. while full scale invasion won’t happen, some level of aggression is plausible. but aggression is costly to both sides, and a benefit cost question for china. if australia is friendly to china - eg not tied at hip to its peer rival - not much for it to gain from aggression

all the Very Serious People who put all our eggs in the USA basket, doubled down on this inherent fragility, intoning about our enduring relationship blah blah… absolute numpties, buffoons in suits

Here's the thing, there's an entire political class that think the job of protesters is to be chess pawns for Very Smart Political Chess Players. They see them as unpaid staff for their personal political project, and get very annoyed when the staff doesn't obey them.

I genuinely think this particular aesthetic trend (Good Art Is Didactic And Also Assumes You Are Very Stupid) is a non-trivial source of anti-woke backlash, like unironically. It is really really annoying, and I think it has provided wedges by which anti-wokes can radicalise nerds.

This is like when Russian oligarchs and, more recently, Chinese tech billionaires learned the difference between being a fantastically rich person and being in direct personal control of the state and its powers.

why is Australia applying a sanction to individual cabinet ministers but not the state they represent? or the first minister they are accountable to? is there precedent?

albo’s hosting a roundtable to leverage abundance mindset, turn the productivity dial and grow the pie. cool

Going to make a big prediction: This won't happen.

If arrested 200 kms from Gaza, then this was on the high seas and the arrest was unlawful under both the law of the sea and international humanitarian law. The forced 're-education' is also clearly unlawful. www.smh.com.au/world/middle...

consumed three cinnamon donuts and a Diet Coke today to embrace abundance mindset

‘abundance mindset not scarcity mindset’ is just the latest mumbo jumbo for the ‘grow the pie, don’t slice it’ cliche. somehow it’s even more vague and vibey

Australia already went thru the ‘abundance’ agenda’; Tanner mounted a quasi-progressive case for ‘deregulation’ that was so central even his department was named after it… what did all this amount to? Sometimes some decent tweaks, but nothing that is experienced as ‘abundance’

idea that AI the deep critical thinking development of undergrad learning seems to flatter the existing state of affairs. the art of the modern uni is algorithmic already, you predict what words marker wants to see while minimising time invested. that's a certain skill but not profound or special

🚨PSA for anyone using GPT in human subjects research🚨 A judge has ruled that OpenAI must retain ChatGPT and API data indefinitely, with few exceptions. This might have implications for your IRB compliance and the security of your participants' data. 1/
