Y’all pretend that the conservative courts haven’t been trying to kill class actions for three decades.

Zohran Mamdani is saying things like “poverty is a policy choice and politicians have a duty to their constituents to make their lives affordable” and it is making a lot of politicians very very scared that they may actually have to start doing some actual service in their public service jobs.

This country is thoroughly screwed for at least a generation. People haven't taken stock of how much damage has already been done. 2026 and 2028 won't magically fix this. It's going to be a long walk.

no amount of free money is going to get people to have children in a stagnant society of rampant corruption and dwindling opportunity

god damn he's cooking

i cannot wait for the wokeness blowback so bad. wokeness is going to be so much more widespread and powerful than ever before

this court says that allowing EPA to regulate carbon emissions is a "major question" that demands congressional debate. but allowing the president to, with a flick of the wrist, end a straightforward constitutional right is something that must be allowed to stand?

Fundamental issue in American politics right now is that policymaking has been in a backed up feedback loop of promising more and more to compensate for the fact that Congress cannot reasonably pass normal legislation anymore

the reason that I am so insistent on primaries is that if the next Democratic trifecta isn't to be as fucking useless as the last, sniveling little racists like Gillibrand have to be afraid

“No right is safe in the new legal regime the Court creates.” –Justice Sonia Sotomayor. One of the most chilling sentences I have ever read.

I’ve been saying to the video game industry for years that “child protection” is the route this current Supreme Court will use to allow Christian groups to take a run at Brown v EMA. This lays that ground work. Prof Miers has done a great analysis, as you’d expect.

The Roberts Court is committed to the rule of vibes rather than law and the vibes are Fugitive Slave Act

This country might be beyond saving.

Thinking about the tut-tutting Democratic politicians who spent their two years in power warning that Supreme Court expansion was too radical an idea to even think about taking seriously. You absolute fucking rubes. You gigantic, credulous losers. I hope you are ashamed of yourselves today.

I really do think this might be the worst Supreme Court of all time, which is saying something for an institution that coexisted with slavery These motherfuckers are even worse imo bc they are *also* out here using antebellum reasoning and pursuing antebellum goals but well post bellum!

The Taney court is famous for one monstrous decision. The Roberts court will be remembered and cursed for many.

Yes, this is bad for porn. But porn famously has no clear legal definition. As such: This is a direct path to censoring anything the GOP wants to censor and can argue is “adult” - info on birth control, queer identity, anything about trans people or gender diversity or safe sex or HIV or drag or

Worth noting that allowing these fascists to ban or block access to what they deem to be "obscene" is a pretty easy way of censoring access to politically subversive content, queer content, or anything that disrupts their Christian nationalist worldview. It's a quick and easy route to censorship.

The Supreme Court is about to go on an extended summer vacation, after having blown up the docket of every single lower court judge who has been working like a dog to deal with the firehose of illegal orders coming out of this administration.

the basic throughline from the Court’s first amendment cases today is that the presence of children essentially removes constitutional protection from what would otherwise be clearly protected free speech.

The Supreme Court allowing for age-gating of porn, parental opting-out of queer books, and the limiting of national injunctions all amounts to a world where religious zealots and fascist functionaries can basically fuck over broad swaths of the country -- particularly minorities -- with no recourse.

The Supreme Court is dead set on letting Trump and Co. act lawlessly. Something drastic must be done at this point because these folks aren't jurists, they're partisan actors rubberstamping Trump's worst fascist impulses.

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, in dissent, on the Court's ruling on universal injunctions and birthright citizenship: "The Court’s decision to permit the Executive to violate the Constitution with respect to anyone who has not yet sued is an existential threat to the rule of law."

The NY Democratic establishment more likely than not will get on board with Mamdani, but I do think that it is a bad look that the party that keeps crowing about the erosion of democracy is slow-walking endorsing or supporting him just because they don't like the nominee.

the way calling for the deportation of any visible non-white person is rapidly becoming normalized is a huge cause for concern.

Ganz nails it here.

It’s crazy that folks are chalking up Zohran’s win to just him being hot, as if that’s all it takes. If being hot and charismatic is all it took to win elections, Kamala Harris would be president.

Just say that Zohran is hot! The lesson is to run fuckable people!

It’s weird that the only time a Democratic consultant enters my feed, it’s because they’re mad that a Democrat got voters excited and won an election.

this one easy trick to likeability (have values in service of the public good and derive your goals and actions from those values)

they both lost! god is good

I wish Brandon et al had done this in Chicago. Immediately kept people in the city informed about what they were doing, where trouble lay, and importantly what help they would need from city residents. Then a CONSISTENT communication directly from the 5th floor.

One last thought - Zohran ran a very conventional campaign in a lot of ways. He had an incredible ground game and focused on basic cost of living issues while his opponent tried to beat him with culture war attacks about Gaza and Crime.

Men who think they can get away with sexually abusing women can EAT SHIT

If Kamala had been the Bidenworld pick from the midterms on and had the opportunity to win a primary and run her own full campaign, I think she'd have won.
