I've just been told that screen readers can't interpret dashes. I find that hard to believe. Does anyone have definitive guidance on that? @a11yawareness.bsky.social

This is the first time I've seen this error ("chopping it up" instead of "chalking it up"). It's on a major newspaper's website today. I guess I'm not surprised. There are plenty of adults today who never had a blackboard in school.

I wish Jeff Buckley were around to experience smart speakers.

On today’s edition of “Yeah, It’s Playing in the Grocery, but I Swear It’s Still Cool”: The Postal Service’s “Such Great Heights.”

This example stood out to me in this fantastic thread. As each year goes by, I see this error more and more. It's evolved to the point that some people use "hone in on" when they mean simply "hone." I like to explain it by telling people to think of homing pigeons.

I’m not sure there will ever be a better opening track on a debut album.

My 12-year-old had to tell the cashier at Wendy’s that an actual Krabby Patty is bun, patty, cheese, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, bun. The funny thing is the cashier also knew that his wares are inaccurate. #SpongeBob

I just found out about this amazing 136-track digital album. It includes songs from R.E.M., Angel Olsen, The War on Drugs, @billorcutt.bsky.social, @themountaingoats.bsky.social, and so many more. All proceeds are going to victims of Helene in NC. cardinalsatthewindow.bandcamp.com/album/cardin...

✨ Friday Tip ✨ Don’t hit “replace all” when using find + replace unless you’ve given thorough consideration to what you may replace by accident. The word you’re replacing may be contained within other words or be used in instances you aren’t thinking about, leading to a messy situation. 🧵👇🏻

How Pete Rose was banned from baseball and the 2017 Astros aren’t will always be beyond me.

If you're ever wondering whether someone is Gen X or a millennial, the clearest indicator is whether they say "based on" or "based off."

The $5 milkshake in Pulp Fiction would now cost $10.61.

Wake me up when September ends or when OnlyPosts is back up, whichever comes first.

It’s hard for me to believe that the Times doesn’t know that only Nazis use “Führer.”

#CopyeditingProTip: Even when a compound adjective isn’t in front of the word it’s modifying, you often want a hyphen. Take this example; it’s the difference between a wholesome and industrious family and an enslaved family.
