@lisaguerrero.bsky.social for the Cardinals. He did a good job there but got let go and he’s doing awesome with the Padres. His story is so insane. Everytime I see him on TV it’s so surreal especially when the Padres have to wear their City Connect Jerseys with the pink belts

@lisaguerrero.bsky.social this guy scrapped for everything. 30 years ago he was working at the fresh market making Boars Head sub sandwiches for people. He parlayed his success with us into a scouting job with the Cardinals. He went from scouting to coaching at every level before become head coach

@lisaguerrero.bsky.social he is a baseball gym rat of a coach and is the only MLB coach to never play pro baseball. Instead of playing pro ball he was turning many of us into D1 players and we even had one make it to the majors (Daniel Bard who was the closer for the Rockies until last year)

We would have access to the AAA team stadium bc his mom used to work for the Charlotte Knights. It was great to take BP in the bowels of a legit stadium even if it was a dump

@lisaguerrero.bsky.social when I met Mike Shildt it was fall of 1998. He had just finished a stint with UNCC and his Alma mater UNC Asheville. He had moved back to Charlotte where he was from. He was still very young (right around 30) but to a teenager he seemed like a wise old man

@lisaguerrero.bsky.social you should do a piece on my old baseball coach Mike Shildt. He is now the manager for the San Diego Padres and his story is incredible!! I would know because I saw him when he was at rock bottom baseball wise.
