We know that people with learning disabilities experience high levels of health inequality, but there is something even more dangerous about removing the 75% target for AHCs (England) when we are rebuilding from the pandemic, which saw the removal and scaling back of services.

🚨 BREAKING: We are delighted to share that our client @ellenclifford.bsky.social has won her case against the DWP over an unlawful consultation held on reforms tightening the #WorkCapabilityAssessment. These reforms would lead to over 400,000 people being worse off by at least £416 a month.

With Government announcements on changes to Disability Benefits due in the Spring, we’re looking for evidence from our supporters on the impact any potential cuts could have ⬇️

I have always loved public libraries, but having young children has exponentially increased my gratitude and sense of indebtedness to them. Our local library is such a huge part of our lives. The books, the programming, the very intentionally curated kids’ section. It’s all such a gift.

The devastation on its way is unimaginable - like nothing humanity has ever witnessed before - and everyone will wish they had been climate activists and ‘hysterics’ when they had the chance. We are in a moment of unprecedented stupidity

We had some great interest in Dr @suecaton.bsky.social and team's Medications and My Mental Health research project which was featured in our research newsletter last week. For insights and resources from the project, please follow along with them below: #AcademicSky #LearningDisabilityResearch

Finally updated the Stolen Lives blog...there's a lot here. 😀 stolenlives.blog/2024/12/19/a...

Our statement regarding a paper published in the British Journal of Psychiatry rightfullives.org.uk/blog/stateme...

The Senedd supported calls to end the human rights scandal of autistic people and those with a learning disability being inappropriately detained in hospitals.

#HumanRightsDay Declan had severe learning disabilities and died in a mental health unit after repeatedly banging his head against a wall. Human rights of people with learning disabilities and autistic people are being breached across the UK. Shame. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Stolen Lives motion unanimously passed in the Senedd. Thank you to Hefin David MS, Sioned Williams MS and Mark Isherwood MS. At last, the inhumane hospitalisation of people with learning disabilities and autistic people has been recognised by the WG as the human rights injustice that it is.

Heart breaking. This human rights scandal just goes on and on... Imagine losing your daughter to brain cancer and then your grandson, who is struggling with the loss of his mother, to a bloody hospital. Please BBC News show this lady some respect. 'Granny' FFS 😡 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

A really important debate is taking place in the Senedd Cymru this Wednesday 4 December 2024 on the Stolen Lives Homes Not Hospitals campaign led by Hefin David MS and supported by Mark Isherwood MS and Sioned Williams MS.

#RRNConf24. Heartbreaking keynote entitled ‘The truth about what happens to our children.’ It included the drawings of autistic MH inpatients. This drawing is entitled Life in Seclusion: 567 days.

Just like with the pandemic, when a group is not thought about in policy, when their experiences are undervalued, it paves the way to ableism in medical practice and eugenic ideas. I cannot see how AD will be any different.

#Assisteddying Autistic people and people with learning disabilities are often absent in crucial debates on medical research and practice. Without their experiences directly informing those debates, narratives suggesting that they are somehow 'less worthy' become reinforced and socially validated.

Can't find an England/Wales equivalent to the 'Tell us what you think about the Assisted Dying for Terminally Ill Adults (Scotland) Bill?' for people with Learning Disabilities? Have I missed it? Does anyone know what the Scottish findings were? www.parliament.scot/-/media/File...

The #AsssistedDyingBill will not just change the way we think about death, but the way we think about life and the value we place on it. Does anyone know what people with learning disabilities and/or autistic people think about this bill? What do the LD organisations have to say?

www.theguardian.com/society/2024...

Oral health so important for people with learning disabilities. When I undertook my AHC research it was very much a neglected area, with some people not even registered with a dentist.

We need compassion, respect, information in inquests: 'Ignorance of autism, disability and mental health can generate further harm..Just as existing systems and services often did not meet the needs of the person when they were alive, the inquest process could fail them in death' #LearningDisability
