They say a #guilty conscience can feel like it’s a curse, but when you know you’re wrong, and say you’re right, I think it’s worse. #vss365

D.C.'s Daily Rhyme I pray for better days ahead but pine for what we’ve lost. I feel there’s time to bridge our gaps but fear the lines we’ve crossed. I wish we’d love all neighbors but I worry we’ve picked sides. I hope we find resolve to change and help end our divides. www.dcswanson.com #vss365

The most effective #lullaby is not, in fact, a song. Just talk about your day at work- your kids won’t stay up long. #vss365

DC's Daily Rhyme- www.dcswanson.com Compassion from a distance may seem abstract, but it’s real We need not see a person’s face to know the pain they feel It’s good to love thy neighbor, but we never should forget To save up some compassion for the neighbors we’ve not met. From my #vss365 archives

D.C.'s Daily Rhyme - March 16 Some people scorn on immigrants. I wish that they'd just can it. The truth is we're all neighbors, and it's not that big a planet. www.dcswanson.com A poem from my #vss365 archives

D.C.'s Daily Rhyme - March 14 Don't despair and don't despise; when life knocks you down, just rise. www.dcswanson.com from my #vss365 archives

D.C.'s Daily Rhyme - March 14 Absence of kinetic motion leaves us frozen in our fate. So, get up and build momentum toward a future you create. www.dcswanson.com From my #vss365 archives

D.C.'s Daily Rhyme - www.dcswanson.com I like poems that have no purpose other than they make me smile. I think rhymes can work, sometimes, to help unwind our minds a while. (from my #vss365 archives)

D.C.'s Daily Rhyme - March 12 Advertisements track our movements. Algorithms train our brains. Wish we could rewind and find that place in time where peace of mind remains. (another old #vss365 tweet that I am posting on my author website - www.dcswanson.com)

D.C.'s Daily Rhyme - March 11 I scroll down a screen and the onslaught begins; I open a book and my peace of mind wins. www.dcswanson.com #vss365

D.C.'s Daily Rhyme - March 10 Words can serve as weapons for attacking or defending Words can sow division or can bring a schism’s ending Words can educate, or obfuscate and be confusing Whether words prove bad or good depends which words you’re choosing. www.dcswanson.com (An old #vss365 post)

We constantly scroll Through the #rigamarole That the billionaires use to distract us In hopes we ignore How they keep taking more And the ways that their system has cracked us. #vss365

D.C.'s daily rhyme - March 9 Always seek a bright side, even when it’s grim. Hope does not desert us when the sky grows dim. Don’t let shadows scare you; they mean there’s still light. If we hold together, we’ll get through the night. (posting old #vss365 rhymes on my website -www.dcswanson.com)

Some go with the flow and then drift with the tide. Some stand like a dam and do not step aside. Some seek middle ground and establish a #weir for water flows best when it's water you steer. #vss365

D.C.’s Daily Rhyme - March 8 Sometimes, rhyme can help infuse sincerity in words you choose. www.dcswanson.com (I am daily re-posting past #vss365 entries on my author website.)

There is a condition called “billionaire brain.” It makes you think everyone’s glad when you gain And that there’s no harm from the rules that you break And that all debates benefit from your take. The ailment is grim-the best we can do for them is, like #Pomeranian barks, just ignore them. #vss365

I'm told that I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree and yet, no tree or #copse thereof inspires poems like you, my love. #vss365 www.dcswanson.com

D.C.'s Daily Rhyme for March 7 - www.dcswanson.com Words can share life's truths, or shroud them. Words can clear up facts, or cloud them. Words can set things straight, or break them. Words can make dreams real, or fake them. (one of my old #vss365 poems from years ago)

If I could travel back in time to March the 6th, 2009 and see that beaming brand new dad, I'd tell him of the joy I've had in watching that sweet child grow into the grownup I now know. I'd warn him 16 years go fast so try to make each moment last. And say how proud he'll always be- like me. HBD M

In governing, what’s tossed away will rarely find retrieval and moving fast and breaking things is #incognito evil as often what gets broken first is what the poorest need to help prevent the very worst, but now that’s lost to greed. #vss365

It is remarkable and it’s regrettable how the unspeakable fades to forgettable.

It’s difficult to #fathom the depravity required to refuse to let your kids stay up and read when they’re not tired. #vss365 www.dcswanson.com

I do not plan to shop at an imperial #emporium that only offers clothes it hopes the emperor will wear. I'd rather make a stop at a rambunctious auditorium to hear from folks who chose to make the empire more fair. #vss365

Pursue #outlier status when absurdity's the norm- it's wise keep your distance from the center of the storm. #vss365

The #contours of my consciousness are dicey to define, as I think I'm going crazy every time I go online. #vss365

Our day-to-day reality is more surreal, it seems, than the #interim reality that holds our nighttime dreams. #vss365

It shouldn’t be a #fringe belief that if our time on earth is brief, we ought to spend each day we’re given bettering this world we live in. #vss365

Approval is a #sonic lure. The loudest praise does not endure. Instead, aspire to collect some quiet, but sustained, respect. #vss365

Just finished The Sirens' Call, @chrislhayes.bsky.social 's outstanding book about attention. I highly recommend it to any parent struggling with how to manage screens in their kids' lives- an issue I care deeply about. And an important book for the future of democracy. Thank you, Mr. Hayes.

They careen through the course at a #thoroughbred pace but when guardrails are gone, no one wins in this race. #vss365

You can't rewrite reality by scrubbing every screen. You can't erase the facts folks see by threatening what's seen. The platforms may be #petulant, but facts are stubborn stuff. The wool you pull on people's eyes will run out soon enough. #vss365

#Unbridled ambition and unchecked control can unbalance order and unnerve the soul. #vss365

A #reservoir of hope defeats a desert of despair, but you must be dam strategic or you’ll drain away what’s there. #vss365

I scroll down a screen and the #onslaught begins; I open a book and my peace of mind wins. #vss365 www.dcswanson.com

We all should fear what will be wrought when algorithms #displace thought. #vss365

The words you wield and myths you make can rock, or wreck, what’s in their wake. The #slipstreams spun by whispered lies unfurl and swirl and cloud our eyes. So weigh your words. Leave lies behind. And chart your path with grace in mind. #vss365 www.dcswanson.com

Each writer represents a branch of writing’s family tree. A literary lineage that covers you and me. It only takes a couple words before those words we took have made us writer siblings in the #bloodline of the book. #vss365 www.dcswanson.com

The more #complex that things become, we ought to try to not be dumb. #vss365

Books are medicine for minds infected by machines. An algorithm antidote, safe haven from the screens. A crowded bookshelf is the cure for ignorance we've caught For written words will fuel ideas and give us food for thought. #vss365 www.dcswanson.com #safe_haven

I bet that #Mercury, Venus and Mars love that we often mistake them for stars. Meanwhile, Pluto can't catch a break, can it? It humbly dreams to be seen as a planet. #vss365 www.dcswanson.com

When dreams are compliant, there’s no need to #chase them But when they’re defiant, we yearn to embrace them. #vss365

The freedom to speak freely does not mean, in all events, that it's wise to #liberate the things you say from common sense. #vss365 #liberation

A #modest proposal I hereby propose: each day, turn off screens and feel grass on your toes. #vss365

The algorithms that control the screens you see can scar your soul. We’d find more hope and fewer harmed if algorithms were #disarmed. #vss365

"A tempest in a teapot" is the standard headline form; would a #cyclone in their coffee cup awake them to this storm? #vss365

The water's getting awful hot. Is this a #bathtub, or a pot? #vss365

When grownups aren’t in charge, we all get sugar high & go out in the dark & yell as cars go by & trash the neighbor yards & call them ugly names & steal #umbrella stands & bet on risky games & get the matches out & see what we can burn- when grownups aren’t in charge, I hope we live & learn #vss365

The ghosts I know do not appear as misty forms that #conjure fear. Instead, my ghosts arrive at night to ask, in dreams, if I’m all right. #vss365
