The Animation Industry is in such bad shape, you guys. The amount of raw talent and power it is losing because it's not providing a sustainable living is a tragedy that future generations will study with grief. If you're supporting artists right now: thank you.

Game developers have to write misanthropic commands on a regular basis. e.g. "DestroyAllChildren" Here, my #PICO8 terminal log looks like I'm making a Dalton Trumbo game. 😬

This sounds like a good time. London needs a regular #PICO8 community meetup n’ jam.

There's this guy on Youtube called "8 Bit Paul" who has only like 900 subs, but does detailed animation analysis and explanation on popular scenes and it's absolutely great for everyone, so give it a watch and give the man a sub because he deserves more than that! www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGR8...

i'm a sucker for when they swap out one letter in fantasy books. "on black wings arrived a magpye." hell yeah dude. i know basically what that means but also that it's weird-looking somehow

"The sooner you make 5000 mistakes, the sooner you can correct them" Lovely video on functional drawing practice - and a reminder that DOING-THE-THING is the whole point, not the drawings. The experience beats the material result. www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNPF...

A while ago, in a blissful moment of procrastination I dared ask "Why did Van Gogh become the poster child for immersive experiences in the 2010s?" Well, in order to answer this question we first need to go back 50 million years to when France was underwater www.goodafternoon.uk/news/immersi...

Superb game concept ❤️

I'm 60 years late to the party, but god damn this is a great movie. (Available now on the BFI Player) I was expecting a raw, naturalistic depiction of the siege, but there is so much more at play. So many fascinating editing choices. Astonishingly good, and I'm watching it again tonight.

One of the major downsides about working remotely is the inability to casually share sketches / prototypes. Remote working, for all its conveniences, forces us to treat team members like formal clients. Much is lost in software / game development when you can't share WIPs with passers by.

I often find music to be distracting when I'm trying to code, but this fills the gaps perfectly - it's going on loop today. www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLHy... (Found via this Mark Fisher / Hauntology playlist I discovered on Spotify: open.spotify.com/playlist/1wd...)

Designing bullet patterns for a videogame: AKA: Using the power of computers to give myself a migraine. I'm drawing concentric circles made of (n+2 dots). Things start off in this cool HADOUKEN pattern (img1), but quickly become a TURBOMIGRAINE when I add rotational offsets. 🔥👁️🔥

How am I meant to sleep with memes like this popping up on my feed??

I'm a huge admirer of Robert Valley's work, so I had to watch 400 BOYS, his latest short for Love, Death and Robots. Beautiful, as always, and some fun worldbuilding - it feels like a luxurious mutation of Walter Hill's recipe for The Warriors (ultra stylised urban gang warfare + ancient mythology)

I'm being pulled back to arcade games for exactly this reason. I want less content, shorter playtimes, built by passionate people taking creative risks. When I replay a short, difficult arcade game, it is ME that changes, not the game. ❤️

Davinci Resolve 20 has a new AI Music Editor tool which can "Automatically adjust a music track’s length to fit your video!" I have SO MANY questions about how this can be expected to work. How do you add 30seconds to Eleanor Rigby? (I think it needs a rap)

My first personal computer, the Atari ST is 40 years old ❤️ I loved this thing, and never had Amiga FOMO, never... Some fond memories:
