#Mozilla : "we’ve stepped away from making blanket claims that “We never sell your data”" followed by a list of things that I don't want my #browser to do but Mozilla won't commit to. @fedora with #Firefox 's #privacy focus no longer so clear, what are your options for preserving the privacy? […]

Hey #libobscura fans! Did you know that the project is actually made up of 11 crates maintained here? Some new ones, some heavily modified forks. There are several crates for video hardware support, but even if you're not a #camera fan: - error-backtrace (can you guess what it does?) […]

Woohoo, #libobscura returned an image from the #librem5 ! ``` Buffer size: 823296, seq: 0, timestamp: 18178.362439 [s] Writing to frame.GRBG ``` Now I'm scared to look at the data. It's probably garbage. But the proof of concept is there: you can treat the Media Controller API as a database […]

#USB #flash sticks are weird. They used to be given away for free for a decade. They should be filling up drawers. But now I have to pay 4 EUR for a second-hand one. What happened to them all? BTW, if you're in Germany and want to get rid of small, old, unloved Flash storage (USB, SD […]

#Qt6 is in. I should probably upgrade. But #QtQuick Controls 1 is gone. 2.x sucks: it doesn't pick up my theme, the widgets work different and the differences feel like the #desktop side was an afterthought. What should I upgrade to? Is #Kirigami providing honest desktop widgets? #AskFedi #kde

#Food never tastes better than after you've bonked. #Bonk is the best spice. #bicycle #cycling #bike

Is anyone aware of battery-powered #LED strips? I'd like to have several meters of something I could glue wherever I want and just slap a li-ion battery together to have a light. Especially cool as a #bike light, but I can't find anything in red and waterproof at battery voltage. #lighting […]

Why is my #terminal receiving junk whenever I switch to it? > Testing with pattern 0x55: ^[[I^[[O^[[I 31.28% done, Using #Konsole . #AskFedi #linux

Integration #tests are annoying, but what they helped me fix would have been even more annoying to debug raw. Perhaps I made an annoying code base :F #unittesting #coding #debugging

My guess about how the fight against #AI #slop is going to develop. In order from most to least likely: - posting falsehoods like nonexistent references is going to become a bannable offense - posting low-effort is going to become a bannable offense - long-time posters will get more power in […]

77 commits later, and #libobscura has a scripting system good enough to initialize a #USB #Camera So it's back to the same functionality, except with extra complexity, lol. Next up: organize the commits (don't leave a mess if you want contributors) and make sure #librem5 works the same way.

Silly anti-#spam idea: issue tracker invitation link inside the operating system. Want to file a bug about the OS? Prove you're running the OS. No need for open registration, no need for #privacy -hostile #captcha . Also works for other projects #hosting their own #Infrastructure . #selfhosting

Turns out I created a toot I can't delete.

Test image, please ignore.

It makes me wonder when a website "focused on ...] consumer #rights, #surveillance, [#privacy" asks to "Sign up for free access to this post". What's the point of requiring a signup unless you want to surveil readers? https://www.404media.co/anyone-can-push-updates-to-the-doge-gov-website-2/ […]

Why is the standard distance between electronic component connectors 2.54mm? How did it come to be? #electronics #history #askfedi #standards

Finally, after a year of trying, I managed to run a graphical application on startup using #systemd user session :D It's #Antimicrox , to use a #gamepad instead of a mouse. Now I only need #KDE to support login with the #controller .
