NEW: Google used to warn you when you were seeing low-quality search results. Then, in the weeks leading up to the 2024 election, the company quietly turned that warning off www.platformer.news/google-data-...

Rather than violate their oath or comply with Musk’s illegal requests, 21 civil service employees resigned today from Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (formerly the United States Digital Service), stating they would not use their technical expertise to dismantle critical public services.

bylinetimes.com/2025/02/21/d... Interesting and would explain loads…I like @bylinetimes so hope the sources have been double checked

Some updates: 1. A federal judge extended a restraining order blocking the National Institutes of Health from cutting research funds until she rules on a permanent injunction. 2. The IRS will not allow a member of Elon Musk’s team to access individual tax returns.

No, but if you’re looking for one, I am aware of a guy you work with that was indicted four times and convicted of thirty-four felonies.

Exeter visit.

History buffs will know that every authoritarian leader eventually converges on some version of: "I *am* the state. I can not break the law, I am the law, the law is instantiated in me." Our march to authoritarianism so far has been excruciatingly by-the-book. Hitting every beat. No surprises.

To the right-wing pundits crowing over Vance's speech: if you are really "less worried" about a dictator-state that's invaded its neighbour, killed tens of thousands of people, reduced cities to rubble & engaged in mass rape and child abduction, than you are about "wokery", then you are truly lost.

“I expect you will eventually find someone who is enough of a fool, or enough of a coward, to file your motion. But it was never going to be me.”

1. EXCLUSIVE Today, the NSA is planning a "Big Delete" of websites and internal network content that contain any of 27 banned words, including "privilege," "bias," and "inclusion," a NSA source tells Popular Information. The massive purge is creating chaos, taking down "mission-related" work

'Leadership – at all levels – in my view is about bringing out the best in others through a judicious balance of support and constructive challenge, lifting those you lead, rather than grinding them down' Love this from @jillberry102.bsky.social terrific post!

Musk isn’t making government smaller. He’s shutting down the parts of the government that have been investigating his companies for safety violations and ties to Russia.

Pam Bondi is disbanding the Foreign Influence Task Force - the FBI team that is charged with combatting foreign meddling in US elections. Worth asking how this makes us more safe in any way, shape, or form.

A private citizen shutting down a government agency is a coup. Do not normalize this.

This comment in the Ofsted proposals is very revealing. It rests on the assumption that Ofsted can and should 'support continuous improvement and drive high and rising standards.' I am far from convinced that this is the case or that such an aim is compatible with other Ofsted responsibilities.

Possibly the toughest month yet in my time as HOD. It's not possible to be all things to all people. There is no capacity in the system but as leaders we are trying to plug the internal and external gaps. Sending strength of mind to all those in similar situations

'Niece' and 'nephew' aren't the original English words. They were borrowed from French and supplanted native 'nift' and 'neve', direct cognates of German 'Nichte' and 'Neffe'. The French words have the same Proto-Indo-European ancestors so they're cognates too, but very distant ones. Here's more:

I’ve been trying to pinpoint my unease with some modern practices in education. I think it’s the focus on pedagogic efficiency. I am not against being skilled teachers. I rely on a lot of TLAC techniques myself. I just don’t want my kids education ordered from Temu. 🧵1/

Julie Gray, wife of Holocaust survivor Gidon Lev, who joined Musk in his visit to Auschwitz speaks out. She says that Musk felt nothing during the tour & only "cared about how he looked." She shared this with me privately shortly after the tour, and I'm grateful she made her thoughts public.

Here's how the mind of a conspiracy theorist works: Graham Linehan once noticed that the people criticising him appeared to be quite eloquent. But that would mean they were intelligent, and that couldn't be!? So, he came up with the theory that they were using "Grammarly" to appear intelligent. 1/

The story behind RFK Jr. in Samoa's measles crisis has never been reported. He wasn't there to spread misinformation about vaccines (though he did). He wanted to study a "natural experiment" of unvaccinated kids. “I can’t imagine anything less ethical or more cruel.” www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...
