NEW: NSF confirmed that they fired 168 employees today, out of their staff of ~1,500 feds. This includes some people who'd finished their 1-year probationary periods, which were extended to 2-years last month without explanation. More to come.

I hope all physics instructors have a thermal camera nearby.

From my friend and Michigan classmate.

I got pretty far behind on The Lessons of Phyz blog lately. Catching up gave me something productive to do during the big game. Progress was made, but work remains to be done. lessonsofphyz.blogspot.com

1. Here's a series that might have flown under your radar in 2020, by a current host of Radio Lab, @latif.bsky.social. Questions for all episodes, bundled and discounted. 2. February 4-5: Use code FEBSALE25 to get 10% off at The Lessons of Phyz on TPT. www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Conn...

Frosty bison in Yellowstone National Park this morning.

Shot in the Arm takes you back to 2019-2021 while documenting critical Covid events and their impacts. And I have questions—actually, you have questions. Because this set is free. You should see this film. Your students should see the film. www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Shot...

The series is "Connected" and the episode is "Clouds," so is it about atmospheric clouds or network clouds? The answer is yes. And still I have questions. www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Conn...

NOVA opens Season 52 (!) with a question: What Are UFOs? Skepticism and critical thinking feature prominently. @mickwest.com's Gimbal rotation debunk was pretty genius. Nevertheless, I have questions. www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/What...

One of the fastest things I ever did on social media was to unfollow Donald Trump on Facebook. It felt like I had been added to Trump’s followers by Zuck, himself. Apparently it was … different than that. apnews.com/article/face...

PASCO sales rep and former physics teacher Eric Gardner conducts a workshop with the Meter Stick Torque Set. Stop by the booth at #aaptwm25 for info on that and much, much more! #ITeachPhysics

My Physics with Phones Waves and Sound workshop is at 3:30 in Regency Ballroom C today at 3:30 #aaptwm25 . I have goodies and raffle prizes. #ITeachPhysics Slides posted here:

Not sure the extent to which #aaptwm25 is tackling AI for #ITeachPhysics folks. But this article provides a sober analysis of the state of play. TL;DR: Visionaries have a vision, so now teachers: please do the work to implement our vision. Thx! A story old as teaching.

I’m taking a run at @latif.bsky.social’s #connectednetflix. It’s a six-episode series, so the first question set’s free. Connected: The Hidden Science of Everything - 1. Surveillance [Netflix] www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Conn...

I just added another JWST documentary to The Lessons of Phyz. This is Netflix's telling of the beginnings of the telescope. It parallels NOVA's "Ultimate Space Telescope," but ... options. As ever, the Webb team has answers, and I have questions. www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/UNKN...

I set this up a while back and it needed so updates. So I’ve been fiddling and fussing with it for about a week. It’s now presentable, even while more work remains. I like the web version more than the iOS version. phyztreks.blogspot.com
