Schools are underfunded. Staff is over worked. But the D.o.E. would rather pick on girls.

My dissertation (“Office Discipline Referral Narratives, Context, and Categorization”) just got IRB approval!

EdWeek has the story: www.edweek.org/policy-polit... If you're worrying about trans kids in schools, CELEBRATE THE WIN.

We met with out legislators yesterday to talk about bills impacting education and trans youth. It went well, and we got to see the huge 5051 protest that occurred simultaneously #protecttranskids #civics #washington

I checked the group chat at lunch & found out our AG had succeeded in getting a TRO on the gender care ban EO. So many ppl showed up to the hearing they filled the overflow room, and the 2nd overflow room, and the halls. All there to #protecttranskids #transrights

Dozens of US middle school students at a U.S. military installation in Germany walked out as part of protests aimed at Trump's Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The main organizer was a 13 year old girl. #3E #EndImpunity

You are not powerless, and he is not unstoppable. Look at, and learn from, the funding freeze and how quickly he was forced to surrender.

one of the things that is so disturbing about all of this is that trans youth *have* to go to school. it is compulsory for them to walk into institutions that are now being explicitly told not to recognize, protect, and care for who they are.

At a protest for gender affirming care I overheard a conversation about the great turnout & “if we don’t win this, at least we know people will turn out, and that’s something” & it’s like — No. This isn’t a test of whether people will show up for things. Losing this fight means losing trans kids.

New — The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) was told this week by DOJ that they'd lose their funding if the org didn't remove any mentions of LGBTQIA+ issues from their public materials, I've learned. Staff were told they need to deadname trans kids in their reports to comply.

Found out that TWENTY emails is considered a lot to politicians on an issue. TWENTY. As in, they call that getting slammed. So next time you see a request to email your rep, or call, keep that in mind. TWENTY is a lot.

In 45 minutes I get to defend my thesis proposal. A year ago I had no idea that was even a step.

Exhibit 132412352521 of "we told you this would happen" Trans sports bans make it more likely that cis girls will be abused by child predators.

Despite executive orders from Trump, the law is clear: Denying care to trans young people means that health care providers and hospitals are in violation of our anti-discrimination laws. Trans youth are entitled to the same care as their cis peers - it's the law.

It bugs me that middle school materials tend to be hyper cute b/c they’re designed for elementary kids. So, I like to make beautiful things for my secondary kids. Like a choice board for midsummer nights Dream. #middleschoolteacher #middleschool #shakespeare #teaching

As the EOs and orders keep coming, I keep thinking of the exhibit in the Berlin Jewish Museum that displays the 962 anti-Jewish laws and policies in order as they came down. These kinds of drumbeats are designed not just to oppress but to normalize oppression. www.jmberlin.de/en/jmb-journ...

Way too strong for sports, not strong enough for the military. Which one is it? www.everythinglubbock.com/news/nationa...

A week ago I started an assignment for a CEU that included looking up DOE DCLs. I picked a joint doe/doj one from 2016 about title ix. When I returned to finish the assignment today the link returned a 404 error. Not “archived” or “revised” like you’d expect just…not there. Like it never existed.

If you don’t think you have a dog in this fight, you absolutely do. #protecttranskids

"We have to allow this [org/shelter/hospital/school] to erase the trans community and comply to save everyone else" Absolutely not. I will not allow my community to be jettisoned to save yourself. Yes, if you don't, other groups may suffer, and you might too. But we are all in this together.

Seasoned teachers cut their teeth during NCLB & are good at protecting kids. Veteran teachers have only taught post-Newtown & are good at protecting kids. New teachers grew up protecting each other & are the best at protecting kids. This is not going to change the way we #protecttranskids

Trans kids are not a bargaining chip. Being trans isn’t a culture war. Not giving an inch in my support for trans and nonbinary people of all ages to live freely and openly, and neither should you. Gender is what we make of it, and that’s what they’re afraid of.

Dollars to donuts, the Venn diagram of senators who will vote yes to banning trans kids in sports to “protect girls & women” AND who just confirmed a rapist will be a circle.

These are good ideas, teachers, but they’re also just a start.

This is what I want to hear from my union.

My least favorite people are the progressives who jump to say “it won’t matter” every time someone makes a suggestion. “They won’t care.” Maybe that’s considered a good contribution to progress where you’re from but I actually think you’re more damaging than anything else.

ABC White House correspondent just released ANOTHER anti-trans EO expected that we did not cover in our piece this morning: A federal ban on funding to programs that acknowledge and affirm transgender people.

I’m revising my dissertation proposal for possibly the millionth time, & I think maybe the prob is my mixed method study should really alllll be qualitative. Or not. Sigh. I’ve read this so many times it’s a blur. #dissertation #EdD #gradschoolprpblems

Reversed the usual “I do, we do, you do” this week when teaching hero’s journey. Instead it was: You do—a circle on your fav movie We do—a chalk circle w/friends We all do—a giant circle with each student as a part & ended w/pass the phone #englishteacher #teaching #herosjourney

Sigh. This feels gross somehow.

Today we drew the hero’s journey in chalk outside the school. #englishteacher #middleschool
