The Australian Government has just approved Woodside/Japan LNGs Scarborough gas project. It will add 878 million tonnes emissions to our atmosphere, making fires, floods etc more frequent and extreme, causing $256 billion damage. We will all pay the cost. info.nopsema.gov.au/environment_...

Large areas of WA’s Ningaloo corals could die in ‘weeks ahead’ after widespread bleaching documented by @donnadlu.bsky.social www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...

Hot take: The fight over LNG and gas’s role in our lives will be the key determinate of whether we have any chance of staying below 2 degrees. Bonus: this advertisement makes me sick (and is profoundly poorly targeted, given I’m from Melbourne and live in Cambodia)

in absolute love with the progress we've made on renewables.

Has anyone thought through the impact of USAID's demise on American grain growers? $2 billion a year isn't easy to replace.

“At a minimum, 300 babies that wouldn’t have had HIV, now do.” Send him to the fucking Hague

@mattkennard.bsky.social - my friend tells me you have a great take on USAID cuts, but I can't read it because you only seem to use X. Honestly, given that it's the lifeblood of Musk's fascist machine, why oh why wouldn't you cross post somewhere better?!

The rules, if you are keeping track: If a single left activist anywhere in the world says "defund the police," it becomes the official position of the Democratic Party, now and forever. If the president's top surrogate repeatedly sieg-heils on stage, it's ambiguous, impossible to interpret.

Trump is going to make a lot of noise today about boosting fossil fuels. But the case for transitioning to clean energy has never been stronger. Governments need to focus on the fundamentals in their next round of national climate plans. My take in @devex.com: www.devex.com/news/opinion...

Mass incarceration is out of control in Australia. 1% of Territorians are in jail now — that's higher than even Mississippi in the US. An absolute crisis situation. #ntpol nit.com.au/31-12-2024/1...

OK! Song of the year: Waxahatchee - Right Back to It Album of the year: MJ lenderman - Manning Fireworks Film of the year: Poor Things TV show of the year: Baby Reindeer Book of the year: wasteland (great book about plastic) and Bee Sting (great book about Irish family collapsing)

This means thousands of kids will breathe better, think more clearly and live much better lives. It means so much.

We have already celebrated many sacred traditions - child 1 got a barbie, so she can compare herself unfavourably, child 2 got some second hand stuff cause she’s a second child, the reindeer did poo in the backyard which became chocolate balls and I ate terrible biscuits that we left out for Santa.

F--- yeah!

Just awful

Photo of the Day, if not the Year. Solidarity and admiration. 📸This brilliant photo of Gisele Pelicot, leaving court for the final time yesterday, was taken by Arnold Jerocki for Getty Images.

The Energy Transition makes a Nazi the world’s richest man was not on my climate change bingo card. Life is full of surprises.

Asia’s electrification is incredible- that’s a lot of lives changed in 20 years.

These enormous fans at train stations in Singapore are amazing. So refreshing, use next to to no power and are particularly effective when it’s hot.

“The shame must change sides”

The answer is that - of course - we need to destroy demand for these planet destroying fuels, but this makes the whole project feel very disheartening.
