Apparently the Pokémon Company declared 2025 as the “Year of Eevee”. I really dug Let’s Go Eevee but I reckon my favourite Eevee-lution is Sylveon. It’s a snazzy beast. Anyone else got a favourite?

Debating getting a new laptop but with the proliferation of various software companies introducing taxing “AI features” which take up so much memory, I wonder how long it will be before a new device no longer functions. Not many of these programs have the option to remove or switch such features off

It's been 25 years since Peanuts creator Charles Schulz died. He drew Charlie Brown, Snoopy and friends for 50 years before his death, and they still remain very popular.

My latest cartoon for @newscientist.com

TwoMorrows Publishing needs your help! Diamond Comic Distributors' bankruptcy left us with enormous losses, and until payments from our new distributor begin in a few months, we’re staying afloat with webstore sales. If you can, order something from www.twomorrows.com!

Alllmost there.

Another cool series I have been eyeing, hoping for an English language pickup. Gess’ Tales of the Octopus (contes de la pieuvre). Four books so far, each story is set around a place called The Octopus but follows different characters. Set in late 19th/early 20thC Paris with a hint of magical realism

Little bit more of Vinland Saga exhibition while I wait to get into Witch Hat Atelier.

LES 5 TERRES [tr. The 5 Lands] - Yet to properly give this series a look but first glance gives the impression that it is probably a mix of Shogun, Game of Thrones and (visually) Blacksad rolled into one. It is currently 14 volumes, with a 15th due in June. Not aware of an English translation as yet

Glimpses of the Vinland Saga exhibition at #FIBD #Angouleme from yesterday. All original pages. And very, very busy.

This series, NUNUCHE, is absolutely delightful. A cartoon strip about a little girl who gets a puppy that is a bit odd. Really funny, absolutely charming. The first book - translated to English by Europe Comics (digital only) - was a highlight of 2023 for me. 🐶

One of the cool things in France is the level of thought - and flexibility - when it comes to printing. More hardcovers etc. One really cool example: Gou Tanabe’s French publisher Ki-oon leaned in on the Lovecraft theme to give the books a faux leather cover. They really stand out.

Today’s main objective: get into the Witch Hat Atelier exhibition. It has had the biggest lines all weekend - mainly because it is in probably the smallest/narrowest main venue. Previous years it housed Rutu Modan, Julie Doucet, and Nine Antico retrospectives #fibd #angouleme

This morning’s agenda: seeing the Vinland Saga exhibition. Show opened an hour ago, we have been in line about 45 minutes. Good thing the show is open from 10am to 8pm on Saturday. #fibd #Angouleme

This morning at #FIBD I popped into the closest venue to the International Rights Market (where comics rights are bought and sold for translation). While in Monde des Bulles (French mainstream) I saw some familiar names doing sketches and signings: Chantal Montellier and John Romita Jr

Gou Tanabe exhibition at Angoulême #fibd 2025. Lots of original pages from his Lovecraft adaptations. Interesting to see how much was done on paper and on computer. Hopefully have time for Witch Hat Atelier and Vinland Saga before weekend up. Btw all the mangaka - plus others are at the festival

First official day of Angoulême International Comics Festival #fibd 2025. This is the queue for ONE of the marketplaces (mainstream French BD publishers, “Le Monde des Bulles”/World of Bubbles) There is also Nouveau Monde/New World which is international and alternative publishers and Manga City

When the French BD industry takes a foreign work, it goes the whole hog to draw attention to it #angouleme #fibd

Ideas for ideal casting for The Incal: John Difool: Jack McBrayer Metabaron: John David Washington I am hoping for something that is not entirely comedy but well balanced between the dramatic and the bonkers. I would be curious to see what McBrayer can bring dramatically.

Oh well.
