I don't know if the German media wanted AfD to win but it was clear that the American media really, really wanted AfD to win (because the perception that there's an inexorable global tide of fascism helps Trump)

George Zimmerman and Kyle Rittenhouse are walking free! They're doing fucking speaking tours!

Remember when John Roberts gutted the Medicaid expansion because he said the *offer* of medicaid money was too coercive to the states bsky.app/profile/atru...

The growing cottage industry of folks posting "can you believe that x is a nazi site" over and over is tiresome.

Anyone else feel like a sucker for paying taxes and generally obeying the law?

I see we’ve entered the finding out phase for American businesses.

“After we’ve discriminated against, deported, or disparaged all the immigrants, the gay and lesbian and transgender people, the developmentally disabled, the women, and minorities. Once we’ve ostracized our neighbors and betrayed our friends… what comes next?” - Gov. JB Pritzker

I do not feel like it takes a whole lot of intellectual horsepower to connect “Trump declares himself king” and “trump illegally destroys the federal government our ancestors built because he thinks he’s a king” into a coherent political message. Plane crash. Egg gone. Billionaires happy. Ppl sad.

Dear democrats, learn to do politics. That starts with ignoring lawyers.

She feels stupid because she is stupid.

I’ve long been surprised at the relative lack of response by the general population to getting hosed. But, if this all falls apparent, folks aren’t going to have pensions/401ks to think about. Their future is gone. Folks have gotten violent over way less.

Thank you John Roberts. And thanks to all the laudatory op-eds about Roberts the institutionalist.

I. It's called Rally's in my neck of the woods, but it's underrated.

If I knew the first thing about super PACs I’d be trying to start one for primarying all the feckless democrats who can’t be bothered to do the bare minimum.

my take is that your willingness to accept this gulf of america nonsense is an indicator of your willingness to accept much worse things coming from this administrator

It's 2025. What's the non-deliberately pernicious explanation for the WHCA here? For the laudatory editorials in the papers of record? There's no more plausible deniability so at a certain point (we've reached it long ago, imo), one can only conclude these outlets and their folks like Trump.

Sen. Schatz (D-HI) is right, no procedural gimmick can thwart a majority. But @schatz.bsky.social is missing that many don’t expect magic, they want opposition. Act like the crisis is a crisis, not like things are basically normal, Dems have some policy disagreements, but want to do bipartisanship.

Trump and musk are telling us that they, and only they get to decide how and when to spend our tax dollars, not lie elected representatives. We fought the American revolution over this issue, and then wrote the Constitution to explicitly reject that. Seems like an easy message for Dems.

Do the congressional dems do anything but day trade? I get that this is all the GOP’s fault. But feels like we should have already had the debt ceiling conversations.

Old enough to remember when the media made it a 5 alarm fire for months because Hilary had a private email server. What a joke all this was.

If you have federal student loans, Elon Musk and his cadre of pimple-faced incels are now in possession of your personal information. That likely includes your address, banking information, debt, monthly payments...

I don't consider anyone in favor of this to be an American.

Its pretty dystopian, like something out of North Korea propaganda how Trump creates a crisis and then claims to solve it by citing policies that were already going to happen, and then media praises him in the headlines without noting that Trump changed nothing.

There has never been a taint sniffing party like the MAGA GOP. Gutless. Amoral. Deliberately Anti-Christian. The leadership is a nutless cabal of sniveling school yard bullies.

much like the republicans on the court, the republicans in congress care more about the institutional power of the republican party and their role in the conservative movement than they do in constitutional governance

Jasmine Crockett: "The problem is that Americans thought it was okay to take a full fledged criminal and make him the President of the US and then they want to act aghast when he does criminal things. Let me tell you, we have a thug in charge of the US and if we don't wake up we may not have a US"

okay but you aren’t again, you could be shutting down all senate business by denying every single unanimous consent request, you could be down at Treasury with cameras, you could be doing something other than issuing strongly worded statements your actions have to match what’s happening

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.

Brought to you by the folks who authored the Great Recession.

An underrated explanation for everything that Trump is doing is that he got away with all of it, and he’s old. And now he’s going to nuke all of us because a small portion of the government tried to hold him accountable for a couple of his many crimes. Revenge tour isn’t just against Dems.

It is absolutely astounding to me, an indictment of the country, and also a possible explanation to the Fermi paradox that a bunch of people convinced themselves that Donald Trump cared one iota about them. And they did all this in the year of 2024.
