Listen to Yuh-Line, friends

according to conservatives on the court, the constitution does not protect your right to your own body but does enable the government to ship you off to a foreign gulag without any hope of return

Research by IMF economists shows that the rise and fall of inflation in advanced economies since 2020 has mostly been driven by supply shocks (energy, food, supply chains). Macroeconomic conditions "played a secondary role".

“I asked chatgpt” and you may ask yourself, "How do I work this?” And you may ask yourself, "Where is that large automobile?" And you may tell yourself, "This is not my beautiful house." And you may tell yourself, "This is not my beautiful wife."

the destruction of chattel slavery is one of the great accomplishments in our nation's history and the reason conservatives hate celebrating it is because doing so legitimizes the black counter-narrative of the united states

This is shocking. Pure totalitarianism from DHS, and also blatantly unconstitutional. www.newyorker.com/news/the-led...

Oh no it was just as stupid

“To walk the road of peace, sometimes we need to be ready to climb the mountain of conflict”

Based on crowd-sourced records of No Kings Day event turnout, and extrapolating for the cities where we don't have data yet, it looks like roughly 4-6 million people protested Trump across the U.S. yesterday. That's nearly 2% of the U.S. pop! Mobilized anti-Trump resistance is exceeding 2017 levels

More people showed up to protest in Colorado Springs today than for anything I can remember

Current mood

Together with @paugrau.bsky.social, we have just posted our first Substack, which is our quick take on the outcome of the labour rights and citizenship referendums in Italy on 8-9 June 1/ open.substack.com/pub/simonhix...

Folks, CBO estimate of the distributional effect of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act is out: www.cbo.gov/system/files... It's grotesque

Mamdani is now ahead of Cuomo with just two weeks until the Democratic NYC mayoral primary, a new poll found.

W.E.B. Du Bois on Robert E. Lee: “Either he knew what slavery meant when he helped maim and murder thousands in its defense, or he did not. If he did not he was a fool. If he did, Robert Lee was a traitor and a rebel–not indeed to his country, but to humanity and humanity’s God.”

One of the best framing choices of Adam Tooze’s “Shutdown” re the economic dimensions of the pandemic was pointing out that the collapse of in-person economic activity in spring 2020 was overwhelmingly voluntary! People were scared and didn’t want to get sick!

🚨NOW: Leading community organizations @CVHPower, @nychange, @DRUMBeatsNYC and @CaaavVoice issue a statement on Jessica Ramos' endorsement of Andrew Cuomo for Mayor.

👇🎯 These people will never stop trying to get rich by telling everyone they can learn & teach w/o doing the actual hard work of learning & teaching. They peddle fake alternatives to the hard daily grind of education because they're greedy & lazy. They're charlatans, & we should treat them as such.

Addressing Europe’s prospects for sustainable, equitable growth as the world changes is obv very important for every European’s wellbeing - but what does “poorer” mean in the context of working less, having more decommodified lives, and enjoying more leisure time? Growth for what exactly?

Treating your voters like they have the memory of a fruit fly is one of the deepest forms of contempt.

still my heart, Larry Fink of BlackRock is peddling the Wall Street Consensus globalisation under a 'national goals - and workers' banner. www.ft.com/content/a348...

Rather unfortunate news from Janet Frame

TFW you’re the pro-family and pro “health” party

Two things: every one of these fascist assholes and those that enable them need to be jailed; second, the thumb out middle finger is undefeated

Bonnie Brae Tavern will be replaced by a development called Akin. Akin to what, I’m not sure

Don’t sleep on this

As NYWFP works to consolidate support around its slate of candidates, we're proud to rank @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social #1 🥳 To give voters clear guidance, we're ranking a full slate of 5 candidates. When we unite, we can defeat Cuomo & elect a mayor who fights for us. Let's get this done!

It can’t be said enough: a commitment to see every single person involved with this arson prosecuted to the fullest extent is a nonnegotiable for any politician that wants my vote

Couldn't agree more with this. It's jaw-dropping to see the patty cake people are playing with him after what was a full constitutional assault that, oh by the way, is almost certainly going to lead to tens of thousands of people in the global south dying needlessly.

this is disgusting dems the "extreme" trans political position is that we deserve full civil rights, full access to health care, and full participation in society. we will not compromise on those basic rights and freedoms. that's it. calling that wrong reveals your moral bankruptcy

when Medicaid expansion happened - crime went down - debt in collections went down - evictions went down the state by state nature of expansion enabled causal research - these are solid findings gop leaders are knowingly throwing that away for their own constituents

I got all day to read Ryan from the OC tell us the truth about crypto and stablecoins but I absolutely will not devote the time to adjudicate Mark Cuban’s commentary on Ryan from the OC’s claims so I’m going to need someone to abridge that for me this holiday weekend

A few student loan stats. First 4 from our new blog post, last 2 from ED. 1. Nearly 1 in 4 student loan borrowers with a payment due was past due at the end of the first quarter libertystreeteconomics.newyorkfed.org/2025/05/stud...

This nonsense and dangerous

Reminder that bond yields now, like inflation over the last five years, are rising across the rich world. So if your explanations of what is happening are entirely about 🇺🇸 domestic politics, you’re probably not taking the existence of the global economy seriously enough.

TL;DR: The more the US conducts policy in way that erodes confidence in its institutions, the more it takes on the shape of an emerging market, the more sovereign credit rating kind of start to matter. Crudely put, but I don’t think the complacency is fully warranted.

“The one thing we were created to do we can’t do – at a time when we’re most needed.” “It’s terrifying.” “Completely handcuffed from working.” Why does the Trump Admin want to shut down the one government agency focused on preventing bad actors from ripping off Americans? 🤔

"we must rebuild the Democratic Party to be electorally successful and popular, even if it means flouting some left-wing ideals" "what about a popular law to rebuild the social base of Democratic support?" "ha ha no not like that"
