1/ Something to Think About: One of the reasons a specific cadre of Christians are supportive of erasing DEI efforts is that the same people who blame Eve's sin for woman being under men, turn around and say "Well, why should the effects of racism matter to me?"

On 25 February, T.A. 3019 in Middle-earth: the Fellowship pass the Argonath, and then camp on the Parth Galen on the shores of Nen Hithoel. The Argonath were erected around 1,800 years earlier and show Isildur and Anárion. Image: The Argonath by Ted Nasmith #Tolkien

1/ One of the easiest ways to understand how every form of Christian Nationalism is nothing but pure heresy is to examine the fruit of it. Every time CN, in any form, gains power ... strife, violence, oppression, and forced homogeneity (in all things) is the fruit. www.theblaze.com/abide/paula-...

“‘Good and ill have not changed since yesteryear; nor are they one thing among Elves and Dwarves and another among Men. It is a man’s part to discern them, as much in the Golden Wood as in his own house.’” - JRR Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

Aragorn and Legolas return, having found the old portage-way. It runs inland of the tiny bay where the Company have come ashore—they are already downstream of its upper landing. Everyone starts carrying baggage and boats uphill through rocks and thickets to reach the trail.

Did England's Black Country inspire Mordor? Now we have Tolkien's own outraged description of the real place, from a train journey to Oxford shortly before he created Sauron's dark realm… steadyhq.com/en/john-gart... And if you like my work, please support it 🙂 #BlackCountry #Mordor #Tolkien #JRRT

People are always asking “what are some books that capture the feeling I get when I read The Lord of the Rings” so I made a list:

The great eagle Gwaihir finds Gandalf stranded but alive on the burned and broken summit of Zirak-zigil. He carries the wizard southeast to Lórien where he can recover.

My wife and I visited the park we got engaged at tonight. Had a nice picnic beneath a sprawling oak tree, then went on a photo walk. Captured this shot of a Great Horned Owl. He and his mate were scrounging up dinner. #owl #greathornedowl #birdphotography

If you're not willing to put on the grisly hide of a skinned werewolf in support of the one you love, then run on four legs beneath her winged, vampire-transformed body so you can infiltrate the Hells of Iron . . . what are you even doing? Happy #ValentinesDay #Tolkien

In case you were ever wondering how Tolkien felt about Hitler, he called him a “vulgar and ignorant little cad” and a “ruddy little ignoramus.” (Letters 81 and 45)

For eight days the Balrog has climbed secret tunnels with Gandalf in pursuit. Finally they reach the Endless Stair of many thousand steps, which brings them to Durin’s Tower and a narrow ledge atop Zirak-zigil. The Balrog bursts again into flame. The Battle of the Peak begins.

In 1969, newly elected president Richard Nixon resolved to defund PBS and use the money to wage war in Vietnam. Fred Rogers was summoned to testify before Congress, and what he said that day changed the course of history. A thread:

Did you know that #Tolkien was an internationally-recognised scholar of Old English? One such example of his work was published in "Finn and Hengest" on 20 January 1983. It shows #Tolkien's handling of the two Old English poems: (part of) Beowulf and The Fights at Finnesburg.

Got another of the Rohirrim painted today. #paintingwarhammer #middleearth #rohan #rohirrim #miniatures
