What's damning is this genre of so-called books, like the Hollywood gossip press and glossy mags of old. We shouldn't feed this garbage politics or "journalism". The show and spectacle, insiders and backroom backbiting, cheapen public life and helped get us here. www.theguardian.com/books/2025/a...

Leaving aside, for now, the urgent issues of morality, justice and authoritarianism, the fact that a mini-MAGA Sec. of State has to tout an alliance with the two-bit, crazy ass, puffed up, macho dictator of El Salvador says all you need to know about the pitiful state of the USA in the world today.

Just before Clairo's set began at #Coachella, Bernie Sanders (@sanders.senate.gov) came out for a moment of political activism in the desert. "The future of what happens to America is dependent upon your generation." Story: www.rollingstone.com/music/music-...

Human trafficking, slavery, kidnapping. We must call it by its real names. It's Nuremberg trials level of depravity. A legislature that does nothing is complicit. Democrats must not run and hide from these atrocities because they think talking about Medicaid or veterans polls better. This must end.

It is very good question and one I’ve been asking for months. If there is an international agreement with El Salvador for these renditions, the Trump administration is legally required under the Case-Zablocki Act to share it with Congress. To my knowledge, they have not done so.

As I’ve said, yes, this was their aim all along. That’s why they didn’t just send these people to Gitmo. This is an attempt to find a step beyond Gitmo where the court says, “Well, our hands are tied.” It’s an awful, lawless gambit that must fail, but that is what they want it to be.

this is...and I can't stress this enough...a historic photo. It sums up democrat cowardice in a single image for all time. Nothing will top this. Nothing. Libs get mad at the left for criticizing dems but how ELSE are you supposed to react to this other than bewilderment and rage?

AOC: We must acknowledge the terrifying moment we are in right now. What we are hearing and seeing with our own eyes is, in fact, happening. We are watching our neighbors, students, and friends being fired, targeted, and disappeared. It is real.

Why is America's ally killing its citizens? Would they put up with it if it were British soldiers in this story? Japanese soldiers? Saudi soldiers?

There is a battle of MAGA-normalization between NYT and WaPo “Style” sections. Although WaPo put in a decent effort, it is an unfair fight, as no one can top NYT is terms of far-right normalization.

They’ll do it in a few high profile cases to set examples. People will say, “No way this holds up in court.” Maybe. But we now know the plan: they’ll do it first, then dare the courts to stop them. And this too will be very difficult for courts to undo. This is end of democracy stuff.

100%. It really is time to go there. Again.

I’m curious if Roberts genuinely thought that Trump would comply with his 9-0 decision. Because John Roberts’ level of credulity is going to determine a lot of outcomes in the very near future.

If you feel like being inspired by a big law firm, here's the opening to Sussman Godfrey's lawsuit against Trump and his executive order targeting the firm. It still is amazing other firms caved quickly to Trump's mob-like and unconstitutional shakedown. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Literal LOL “.. 64% of US imports from Taiwan are now exempt from the 10% reciprocal tariff, 44% from Malaysia, and almost 30% from both Vietnam and Thailand. 10% to 12% of imports from India, Korea and Mexico will also now be exempt.” 🤡

This is a concession by the U.S. government that its “arrangement” with El Salvador is irrevocable. To me this has to be grounds to argue that the arrangement itself is unconstitutional under the Fifth and Eighth Amendments

The Archdiocese of Otranto has a number of "virtual tours" of its monuments with good quality closeups if you zoom in. It's much appreciated. Here's one for the interior of the church of San Pietro in Otranto with its frescoes. Check it out! mabotranto.it/virtualtour/...

New York's famed Neue Galerie specializes in Austrian art. But conservatives say there's one famous Austrian artist whose work has been excluded from the museums's collection for purely political reasons.

This hate must not stand.

This is unconstitutional

Here's the reality: they've backed themselves into a corner. If they bring him home there will be hell to pay. It's clear that they believe that the lesser hell is not bringing him home. So we need to make that hell the worse hell. Start calling and screaming at all of your representatives now! 1/2

Raskin: If they can just sweep someone off the street, put them on an airplane, and send them to a torturer’s prison in an authoritarian state like El Salvador without due process… then they could do it to anybody.

"The Prado hopes that actually knowing exactly how many people are in these crowded scenes will help us better understand these paintings" As I said in a lecture I gave at Miami Uni yesterday, projects such as this are neither devised to answer art historical questions, nor will they. 🧵
