My in-laws are clearing out their loft and my husband's been going through some boxes of his old stuff. I think we all need a moment to appreciate the horrors of this cover.

Spent the last day of winter in Suffolk walking on the beach, swooning at a church ceiling and enjoying a delicious lunch. Excellent end to a week off.

Excellent news! blogs.bl.uk/digitisedman...

Lovely (if a little chilly) day for a stroll round the historic gardens at Wrest Park.

Lovely from Phoebe Taplin in todays @theguardian.com Our new edition of Kim Taplin’s An English Path is out now. www.theguardian.com/travel/2025/...

Went to Oxford. Found Narnia and plants. Excellent day.

A greatly reassuring set of quotations. I had not encountered the one about bees and clover.

When the bus company can't remember John's name.

Small excursion into rural Bedfordshire this morning for the annual Blunham Church book sale. Books, tea, cake and old churches - what's not to like?! Good haul this year too.

Some nice news to start the weekend with - one of my poems has been shortlisted in the @mklitfest.bsky.social creative writing competition and will be published in the anthology which is coming in April. #poetry

Out of office is on until March!

I’m starting to prep a post about one of Vera Brittain’s lesser known books (coming next month, hopefully!) which reminded me that she gets a tiny walk on part in this post on Phyllis Bentley’s novel, ‘Inheritance’, from last year. shellydennison.substack.com/p/inheritance

I've sat out here as dawn rises this week. Listening to the rising chorus of birds. Smelling the clear, fresh air. As someone deep in #climate theology, it's been beautiful and sad Grieving losses that have happened, and continue to happen Longing for this beauty to be preserved #solastalgia

LinkedIn is showing me a depressing number of writing jobs that are essentially AI training jobs and I'd quite like it to stop.

I'm starting a new venture over on Substack. I'm calling it Quaker Connections and in it I will be exploring links between Quakers in the past and the present day. Please take a look, subscribe for free and tell me what you think quakerconnect.substack.com/p/opening-a-...

Slightly dull adminy morning at work but this is very satisfying.

Argh. That's a 148 day streak gone. I hope that's not an omen for the rest of the day... Wordle 1,341 X/6 ⬜🟩⬜⬜⬜ ⬜⬜⬜⬜🟨 ⬜🟨⬜⬜⬜ 🟨🟩⬜🟩🟩 ⬜🟩🟩🟩🟩 ⬜🟩🟩🟩🟩

Apparently it's only Tuesday. Which is unfortunate as my brain seems to think it's Thursday.

Lewis Carroll collection given to his Oxford college in surprise US donation

'Gulls, Annie, poured into the skies between our hills, flickering clouds of shredded paper, bright as plastic, or grey as ashes from a fire against the snow still brindling the uppermost slopes.' Winter winds blow gulls & otters to Kirsteen Bell and Annie Worsley’s highland crofts buff.ly/4gM3YGV

Testing the waters to use Substack to write a piece on my #OnePlaceStudies I wanted to tell this story since I read it in my newspaper trawl. It did leave me feeling sad at such a waste of life, but didn't want Ann's fate to just be relegated to a newspaper article. open.substack.com/pub/sarahroe...

My favourite kind of post.

Leavin Meta slowly for the Sky, as we all will in time. Meanwhile, to prove it is me here’s a new poem I recently published in @rialtopoetry.bsky.social Dedicated to friend David Kinloch and to the toun of Dunkeld.

The concept of a tree cathedral seems to be really resonating with readers. As well as the one I talk about here (Whipsnade in Bedfordshire), there's also one in Milton Keynes based on the floor plan of Norwich Cathedral. Any others that people know of? open.substack.com/pub/shellyde...

I've written a news story about part of Whitewebbs Park being handed to Spurs for a new women's football academy. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

Ooh, a great list. #booksky

I stopped using Bitly at work a few years ago because it was unreliable and glitchy. This decision will be the end of the line for many free users still hanging on.

My plan to get together a book of essays on the writing and art of BB ( Denys Watkins-Pitchford) is progressing well with some brilliant writers showing an interest. If anyone else is interested in joining in do let me know. And please share.

A nice overview of the lack of a Bedfordshire cathedral and also mention of the Whipsnade tree Cathedral - had no idea it was planted as a memorial. shellydennisonwriter.wordpress.com/2025/02/11/a...
