Fascinating how much of it is an apologia for the Prevailing Order. "Sorry your life sucks - it's just science," when actually it's not - it's a history of the dominant and the dominated.

Grok going full "white genocide in south africa" was honestly the gift I needed professionally to have a concrete example of what I mean by "Do you really trust the people who make these AI tools not to abuse their influence? The AI will say whatever they tell it to, regardless of truth."

Swing voters are often characterized as “moderate,” even though every election shows us more and more that they’re really “change voters.” They’re not loyal to any ideology, they want something different, because the status quo isn’t working.

People voted for this moron

Everyone in the past was neurotypical, which is how we got things like this single-author, eight-volume encyclopedia of ferns

Somehow this did not apply to the price of eggs and gasoline, which required basically destroying the entire American democratic system and economic order.

One of the things I learned writing a book about global trade is that thing you got delivered next day started its journey *months* ago in China or SE Asia. A few months from now you will see an explosion of stories about empty shelves. It’s going to blow people’s minds.

Raymond Chandler, letter to a friend, January 1948. Seems relevant beyond the specific Hollywood context.

I think instinctively we think there must be a plan or some rationality involved. What is so deeply weird is fully realizing that the President is an impulsive imbecile and we're all along for the ride.

Should be an interesting summer...

DOGE will absolutely (on lost tax revenues alone) cost more money than any claimed savings

Weve gotta do something like and share if you agree

FMK: JD Vance edition.

This one is gonna stick with Whitmer her whole career because it reveals a deep truth that Americans already feel about their leaders. Americans think their leaders operate behind closed doors, refute the truth, and betray their most basic values to advance some aspect of their personal ambition.

These meetings give me the creeps; the way they debase themselves before the Head Dipshit is really gross.

of course this is the 570th study finding this result, but still worth emphasizing that if you get a guaranteed payment, *the incentive to work is still there.* not true of many US welfare programs!!

UBI has been shown to work so many times - every time they try it. Maybe some day people will see the light?

A tale as old as time... www.bookbrowse.com/expressions/...

There is no plan.

the biggest journalistic failure in U.S. history was the total institutional unwillingness to clearly communicate to the public that this guy operates at a third grade reading level and genuinely has no idea how anything works

Citizens cannot, by legal definition, be "deported." What she's describing is kidnapping and forced imprisonment without cause. She and many, many others in this administration should face prison one day. bsky.app/profile/ones...

Give a man a fish? Fish tacos for the family. Teach a man to fish? Now dad's gone to the lake with his buddies and the family has no fish tacos.

if we want to rebuild american institutions and earn back the world’s trust after this we cannot settle for half-measures. lots of people need to go prison. lots more need to be permanently stripped of wealth and power.

I remember Trump's first press conference in the White House in his first term, and thinking, someone is going to stop this, right? We can't have this moron as President. This can't happen. Déjà vu now.
