It looks like Portsmouth and Oxford are going to survive. The question in that case will be, how come those two smaller clubs were able to come up and stay up when #dcfc couldn't? A thorough review of what went wrong is needed, starting from the summer transfer window - which was horribly botched.

This #dcfc side is astonishingly bad, miles short of what is needed for the Championship. There are no reasonable grounds for hope of survival and Eustace will need to rebuild from League One. At least next season should be more fun than this embarrassingly thin gruel.

One of the first things to notice about Eustace is that, unlike his predecessor, he's not going to give anything away in press interviews and will play each question with a very straight bat. That should result in less unforced errors like Sugargate, or Warne's "heads turned" accusations last season

My main takeaway from Pearce's RamsTV feature was the news that #dcfc want a Head of Talent Acquisition. He stuck to the line that Derby had a 'competitive' budget this season. If that is true, we should have signed strikers. New HoTA role is admission that SP wasn't able to get bang for limited πŸ’°.

Welcome back to #dcfc, John Eustace... www.patreon.com/posts/121951... You have got one hell of a job on your hands.

Miracle it didn't happen sooner.

Just before Warne was sacked, I wrote an article asking whether relegation might actually be for the best, given the weakness of #dcfc's squad. www.patreon.com/posts/121434... This squad just isn't good enough for the Championship. Eustace will almost certainly have to build back from League One

I'm fairly certain that new #dcfc coach Keith Downing is the Rams' first member of staff to be related to a member of Judas Priest 🀘 Guitarist K.K. Downing is Keith's cousin.

Massive thanks to @loftforwords.bsky.social, the doyen of QPR writers, for his considered thoughts ahead of tonight's massive game at Loftus Road. www.patreon.com/posts/queens... Wembley feels like a long time ago, don't it? 🏟️

As with everything else this season, the timing of this announcement is suboptimal, as #dcfc play tomorrow. However, it feels like we've got the right man for the club's long-term future. Can he stabilise a third club at risk of πŸ“‰? It'll be a tough task, but his pedigree suggests we've got a chance.

Plymouth Argyle have drawn away at Sunderland, beaten West Brom Albion, beat LIVERPOOL, and now are up 2-0 after 11 minutes. Apparently this is what happens when you fire Wayne Rooney. Teams will be scrambling over themselves to hire him just to fire him later for the boost.

This was a game #dcfc badly needed to win, but they never looked like doing so. The back three played straight into Oxford's hands, was too timid, and left Jackson out of position. Positive is that hopefully, it draws a line under what became a gruelling, hopeless season under Warne's coaching team

'I hope in time, he's remembered really, really fondly, because he deserves that. He delivered us promotion.' While we all wait for *that* announcement, a final word on Paul Warne from @derbycountyblog.bsky.social πŸ‘ FULL PODCAST HERE πŸ‘‡ open.spotify.com/episode/6e8w...

News that John Eustace is on the verge of joining #dcfc from Blackburn is hugely welcome. He'll have a big fight on his hands to keep the Rams in the Championship, but short-term and long-term, this feels like the appointment we needed. His record with Blackburn and Birmingham commands respect.

Am conflicted on John Percy's report linking #dcfc with John Eustace. It's obvious why Derby would want him, but even if The Eust is ready to leave Blackburn, it would be a huge gamble for him to move to a club in a situation as difficult as ours. Is it at all possible that Pearce is being played?

While we wait for news of Warne's successor, here's a read from my archives - "Derby is not Rotherham" www.patreon.com/posts/875772... This was published just after Warne's infamous comments about #dcfc players' "heads being turned" at the start of last season.

My snap take on the announcement that Paul Warne has left #dcfc. www.patreon.com/posts/121722... It's urgent that his successor is appointed ASAFP ⏳

In terms of time, it feels worth pointing out that three of the remaining 16 games will be played within seven days! Either #dcfc move very quickly, or the new manager will have even less of an opportunity to arrest the slump.

Well, now that Warne has gone, it is certainly time that we hear from #dcfc's chief executive about what went wrong and what the plan is to fix things. Short-term, to arrest the team's flatlined form and longer term, to build a more resilient club, better able to compete in the Championship.

@oxblogger.bsky.social Hi, would you be up for doing a Q&A ahead of the game next Tuesday? DM me if so. Cheers!

Get yer sen 66 per cent off your first month's membership of the #dcfc Blog, with the code 'FEBCURSE' 😱 www.patreon.com/c/derbycount... I'm not sure how this February could possibly be worse than January has been... But let's see if the Rams somehow manage it πŸ˜…

I still think this would be well worthwhile...

Bristol City have provided their fanbase with a clear explanation of their January transfer window strategy:- www.bcfc.co.uk/news/bristol... Wouldn't it be amazing if #dcfc offered something similarly open and transparent, instead of leaving Paul Warne to shoulder all the incoming flak on his own?

With the deadline passed, an 18yo kid from Everton signed on loan and nothing else, it's clear that #dcfc have meekly accepted relegation, rather than even trying to survive. I would love to be more optimistic, but we have to be realistic. The club simply wasn't ready to return to the Championship.
