Jill Andrew not representing Toronto-St. Paul's is a travesty for all of us, honestly. How heartbreaking.

If any other #EduSky folks are keeping track, ERIC's publicly accessible interface is still online. However, now might be a good time to start saving any searches and exporting records in case that changes. oise.library.utoronto.ca/oise-library...

Hello I am a resident of Toronto and I think this is deeply wrong.

What drives me crazy about the anti-DEI rhetoric is everyone wants to be judged on merit. But you can't be judged on merit if you can't even get in the door because you don't fit some prejudiced definition of who is capable and who isn't

Someone came out of the yarn room

From Religious Studies at York Twitter account: The administration at York University has suspended admissions to the Religious Studies program . . . The faculty have written this statement. We ask you to will distribute it widely and write to York's administration to protest this decision.

York University is effectively starving out their fledgling Indigenous Studies program before it has had a chance to develop. Please read this letter from Indigenous Studies faculty. www.facebook.com/share/p/1ZDr...

Ontario folks! Advanced polls are now open so if this is more convenient for you, please go out and vote now! #onpoli

Happy Elizabeth Peratrovich Day! Ḵaax̱gal.aat (1911–1958), who was Raven of the Tlingit Lukaax.ádi clan, gave a moving speech that is believed to be a large reason the first civil rights bill for Alaska Natives was passed in 1945. Read more about her here: archives.alaska.gov/education/pe...

This extreme rise of Canadian nationalism is so alarming

Resist fascism from the U.S. and within Canada, but your fervent flaggy nationalism is ALSO celebrating the ongoing colonization, dipossession, and genocide of Indigenous Peoples and we will never, ever let you forget that or pretend otherwise. You can't have one without the other.

White poeple should pay attention to how Black culture responds to threats. Black people are not under any illusion we're not in danger. But Black people are still engaging in joy & clowning around. Not instead of fighting but as part of it.

Have you read "What No Means: Indigenous Feminist Refusal to Library Extraction" by @desmondcwong.bsky.social? Check it out here ➡️ doi.org/10.33137/cja... #libraries #AcademicSky #OA

And this was only searchable because it was indexed, maintained and preserved intentionally by (probably) a library/librarian. Our work is already often obscured and AI really just accelerates that process.

I think Kevin is trying to warn everyone about what is coming RE: AI, but this example shows me you can’t really take the human out of the humanities.

Is anyone else keeping an eye on ERIC? I’m nervous because of the IES cuts #EdResearch #EduSky

For the Education researchers, this is the arm of the DoEd that funds and maintains ERIC #edresearch

When the pursuit of knowledge creation is seen as a moral objective, then those who defend the academy can do so without bringing forward any other struggle. This will not save the university but I am unsurprised that this was written.

“‘When we kick off a merchant, we’re asserting our own moral code as the superior one,’ Mr. Lutke wrote. ‘But who gets to define that moral code? Where would it begin and end?’” I’m not sure what bothers me more about Lutke’s statement: Its willful ignorance or its brute cowardice.

Torontonians have been real quiet about Drake since Kendrick’s halftime show.

Is anyone else angry that Ford used tax payer money to buy a Super Bowl ad to raise his own profile? And now all the Americans are talking about it? He too is a populist. #onpoli

“we’ll forget the silly hats and “my dad can beat up your dad” schoolyard mentality that’s captured our attention for now. And we’ll have to live with the decisions we’ve made. So it’s best we make good ones and not give Ford a pass he doesn’t deserve.” @davidmoscrop.com thewalrus.ca/doug-ford-tr...

So I’m sure Trump’s cuts have cut funding for nasal vaccines and Doug Ford is gutting healthcare in Ontario. There is a provincial election on February 27, go vote for healthcare and human life #onpoli

Healthcare is THE election issue, no matter how Ford & media distract us with tariffs Hallway Medicine. Wait Times. Overworked Staff. Ontario’s Healthcare System is Facing It’s ‘Worst Crisis’ Ever. ‘Healthcare in Ontario has never been in such disarray’ experts say pressprogress.ca/hallway-medi...

Turning our backs on our most vulnerable users, the ones who rely on libraries the most for community and safety, is not going to save us. Now is the time to double down as a field to protect our users and really show up for our communities.

How did that neutrality do at saving you? History will be unkind.

Now more than ever.

"You can't post your way to liberation!" But writing/storytelling/oratory and the arts have always been part of every freedom movement... Digital writing and art is STILL writing and art. Any other take is just silly.

Please enjoy my cartoon for Thursday's Toronto Star

His PR ppl would be unhappy if we start calling him 'long-time Trump supporter Doug Ford' "Ford had been supportive of Trump in past public comments before he was elected Ontario premier, but maintained during the 2024 presidential election he would be happy with whichever candidate won." #OnPoli

This is probably my problem more than anything, but I need the news cycle to stop so that I can stop panic buying tubes of toothpaste. I will continue to resist and also resist this weird (but understandable) turn towards nationalism in Canada right now.
