In just a few hours, we'll be picking up over 1500 books from a lifelong collector! I don't want to say too much about the donation just yet, but I'm very excited and thankful for this one 💖 ~ watch this space ~

A robust Medicaid budget helps ALL of us, even those who aren't on Medicaid. And a healthier population generally is a good thing, which uhhh isn't something I think I should have to say? but here we are CALL CALL CALL

Hello, all! We need HELP this coming Monday (Feb. 24) Our person fell through 😭 & after looking at a picture of the space (second image), I think we'll need TWO people. 1/

“We had to erase trans people or we couldn’t get our federal funding” Fuck the federal funding. You fight, you sue, you do not become complicit in our mass erasure. We are all in this together, and we all go down together. I will not allow us to be jettisoned or erased.

That is correct We are in Nuremberg Laws territory already

Your weekly reminder that every day is Shut the Fuck Up Friday

It isn't paranoia if they're actually out to get you

We need ONE person on Mon. Feb. 24 to help move around 40 big totes filled w books. They'll weigh ~35-75 pounds so please bear that in mind. We're picking them up from Southgate and moving them to Detroit. Handcarts are available at both places + we have one large dolly at the store. No stairs. 1/

Literally anything by James Baldwin

5 years ago today! ...that timeline didn't happen. We'd planned to open April 1st, which would have been a GREAT anniversary. And then the world shut down. We had to abandon our original site and scrambled to find a new one. We didn't open until August of 2020. But we're still here 🎉🎉🎉

yes, dad, I realize this is my business account

This one goes out to the nice family who visited today: K., you asked abt mask-required spaces/events in Detroit & I meant to get your email & forward some contact info. @safersharedair.bsky.social is the most active local group. Their Feb & Mar calendars are on their Instagram (link in their bio)

OOF. We're closed today so I can catch up on shipping & handle an issue with our restroom's hot water line. It didn't freeze! It looks like it just...wasn't tight enough, somehow? For 4.5 years? And it chose last night to let go. That was fun 😅 We'll be here the rest of the weekend. See you soon!

They’re deleting websites while we watch the Super Bowl This one for CHILD TAX CREDITS

Happy Sportsball Day to everyone who celebrates! If Kicky Run Games aren't your thing, we'll be here from 1-5 PM so you can pick up one of our family-friendly games or puzzles, or find your next great read

Local mutual aid orgs need your help right now. Your library, Google, & social media will help you connect. If you can't do anything else, you can call. It can be about a single issue. They're getting frazzled about all the calls so we need to keep it going. Capitol Switchboard: (202) 224-3121

Meta illegaly downloaded 80+ terabytes of books from LibGen, Anna's Archive, and Z-library to train their AI models. In 2010, Aaron Swartz downloaded only 70 GBs of articles from JSTOR (0.0875% of Meta). Faced $1 million in fine and 35 years in jail. Took his own life in 2013.

We also have CDs! This isn't even all of them. It isn't even close to all of them. If you're ditching digital media or if you never left physical media behind, stop in and check out our selection 🎵

I strongly encourage readers of indie queer and especially trans books to start using itchio as more of us authors move away from Amazon. Authors get a bigger cut, you can tip, and, most importantly, you will actually own your ebooks instead of just licensing them from Amazon.
