I watched the mornings tide on the #Mersey cover the entire shore & send rodents scurrying for cover; which of course attracted the Short-eared Owls. Also, an early Ring Ouzel, 30 Blackwits, Merlin, Peregrine, Cettis, Marsh Harrier, 3 GW Egret & a distant flock of Cattle Egret at Ince #UKBirding

Red Kites are paired up and displaying...Adders out of hibernation and sunbathing...spring has definitely sprung in Denbighshire #UKBIRDING #UKReptiles #Adders #Reptiles #RedKites #Denbighshire

A day well spent assisting #NRW staff repairing Hazel #Dormouse boxes at our long-running monitoring site in #Denbighshire ...amazed to find a recently constructed Dormouse nest...confirming activity in February, when they should be below ground hibernating! Knackered now, and a beer awaits!

The feral Barnacle Goose population in Knowsley has been ever growing over the years & included in the last @britishbirds publication. These are part of this population spotted just outside of Knowsley Safari this afternoon @mbblerc.bsky.social #UKBirding #PlasticFantastic #geese #Knowsley

Popped over to Brimstage this PM for the 2 European White-fronted Geese (very rare bird on the Wirral), also an Egyptian Goose within the goose flock! Also called in at Parkgate before dusk: 2 Hen Harrier, 11 Marsh Harrier, 5 Great White Egrets & 2k Pinks. #UKBirding #CheshireBirding #WirralBirding

Took a walk up to Stock Ghyll Force @ #Ambleside, its an age since I've explored this area...trees dripping with epiphytes and every rock festooned a diverse array of mosses, Marsh Tits calling from the canopy...magical! #LakeDistrict #Cumbria #AncientWoodland #temperaterainforest #mosses #botany

'Honey i shrunk the middle-aged man'...all 6ft of me absolutely dwarfed by an enormous Douglas Fir at Aira Force Gowbarrow Park #NationalTrust #AiraForce #Gowbarrow #LakeDistrict #Cumbria #Botany #Trees

Post meeting pint of the black stuff in Soho before my journey north! #Guinness

Bumped into some Goosanders on the Severn this morning whilst walking to the Office in Shrewsbury #birds #UKBirding

Lark numbers at Oglet are really impressive at the moment...this flock also containing at least two Shore Lark...thankfully they stuck around from last weekend 👌 #Lancsbirding ##UKBIRDING #RareBirds @mbblerc.bsky.social

Playing spot the Shorelark this afternoon in Oglet. #Lancsbirding #UKBIRDING

Walk along the #Mersey from Garston to Oglet this PM. I refound last weeks Shorelark, plus at least one other bird hidden in the flock; no improvement on the terrible photos though! X3 SE Owl, Barn Owl, Gtey Plover, 130 Skylark, Cettis Warb & Water Rail #UKBirding #Lancsbirding @mbblerc.bsky.social

A lunchtime dash to Victoria Park, St Helens today for this fabulous drake Ring-necked Duck #StHelensBirding #LancsBirding #UKBirding @mbblerc.bsky.social

#BTO #WeBS count @ #Oglet along the #Mersey best being a Shore Lark amongst a large (110) flock of Skylark (worst photo ever grabbed before the battery died!); as rare as chickens teeth in the NW + Jack Snipe, SE Owl, Peregrine, 734 Teal, 4 Water Rail, Cettis Warb, 120 Pinks #Lancsbirding #UKBirding

The cresent #Moon and #Venus (plus #Saturn if you look closely) over the #Mersey tonight

The #Mersey looking sublime during a Christmas Day stroll #Liverpool #Merseyside

The bizarre sight of a #bat flying along the #Mersey shore at Cressington Esplanade at dusk tonight (flight looked like a Brown Long-eared)...the temperature was so warm you could hardly blame it for emerging from hibernation for a spot of foraging @mbblerc.bsky.social @batconservation.bsky.social

Christmas Eve walk along Otterspool and Cressington Esplanade to clear our heads before the festivities commence...amazing colours on a lovely still night (no filters applied) and unseasonably warm too!

Missed #wildflowerhour but better late than never! Heres some Daffodils - Narcissus 'Rijnveld's 'early sensation' which commonly flower over the Christmas period in these parts...plus the bizarre looking Corkscrew Hazel in #Calderstones Park, Liverpool @mbblerc.bsky.social @bsbibotany.bsky.social

Inside story of the secret deal with Warwickshire Hunt www.channel4.com/news/inside-...

The unusually upright Kneiff's hook-moss Drepanocladus aduncus growing in shallow flushes in #Tarbock, #Knowsley this weekend...not common locally #bryophytes #moss @mbblerc.bsky.social

#wildflowerhour at Tarbock, Knowsley...Greater Willowherb seedheads and Opposite-leaved Golden Saxifrage starting to emerge @mbblerc.bsky.social #botany #wildflowers

Mersey #WeBS count along Oglet Shore, good no's of Redshank (inc a Spotted Redshank), Mallard & Teals; also Marsh Harrier & 3 Little Gull battling downstream into the wind. Best of all was a bull Grey #Seal which popped up about 10m from me on Oglet Beach! @btobirds.bsky.social @mbblerc.bsky.social

Morning mooch around one of my favourite local sites in #Tarbock #Knowsley; this site, which has been unintentionally #rewilded is always full of wildlife. Inc 2 willow tit, woodcock, water vole, peregrine, flocks of Linnets, grey wag & roe deer! @mbblerc.bsky.social #UKBirding #biologicalrecording

Bobby Firmino (yes that is the cats name) lending a paw putting the tree up tonight...we gave up in the end...tomorrow is another day! #Christmas2024 #ChristmasTrees #Cats

Quick dash around a drizzly Sefton Park at dusk today...well worth the effort when some distant calls gradually came closer to reveal a flock of 18 White-fronted Geese heading high south towards the Mersey. The male pochard is still present along with the ubiquitous parakeets. #UKBirding #birds

The #SeftonPark Ring-necked Parakeet roost at dusk yesterday...at least x200 birds including a Slaty-headed Parakeet low down in the branches! #UKBirding #Birds #ornithology #Liverpool
