Why is the real leader of @BhamCityCouncil Lead Commissioner Max Caller (appointed by Michael Gove) allowed to hide in his house in Barnet? His cuts have caused the Brum bin chaos. He needs binning. Bring in ACAS.

Trump has "paused" his tariffs - but they haven't gone away. So what does a 25% import duty mean for UK car manufacturing and the drive to #netzero ??? @goldbergradio.bsky.social @bylinetimes.bsky.social hears from @dgbailey.bsky.social and @transenv.bsky.social podfollow.com/byline-podca...

20 years ago today (8th April 2005), MG Rover went into administration, ending a century of volume car production at Longbridge. Here are my reflections on that day and what has happened since, with links to my Commons speech on the 10th anniversary in 2015 richardburden.com/2025/04/20-y...

Excellent #OnThisDay analysis by my good friend Richard Burden, who was the Labour MP for Birmingham Northfield for 27 years, during which he was shadow transport minister from 2013 to 2017. Click the link in his post below - it’s a good read.

This is a huge hit for the automotive industry. Even if the UK carves out a deal, tariffs will lead to less trade and less growth and may mean Rachel Reeves has to relax her fiscal rules, @dgbailey.bsky.social tells @news.sky.com.

The mistakes were failing to provide enough education and training for people who lost industrial jobs, minimal development strategies for post-industrial regions, a benefit system that failed to cover lost income in the short term and quickly get people into good jobs. That all costs money.
