Any invocation of the notwithstanding clause expires after 5 years and would need to be renewed indefinitely to make this happen. This has a zero per cent chance of happening. But Poilievre's pandering "law and order" ruse *is* normalizing overriding Charter rights — and that is the real danger.

I love California. I love visiting America! But Newsom can't do anything to help me if I wind up in the hands of ICE.

Doug Ford has committed to criminalizing homeless people "[using] whatever legal tools" in today's Speech from the Throne. All while tariffs threaten to end livelihoods. All while his government has overseen exponential growth in homelessness province-wide. news.ontario.ca/en/speech/10...

Oh, hello. It's me.

Great news! Today at the Planning & Housing Committee, Rexdale residents deputed four to one *in favour* of this supportive housing project. NIMBYs take note: we have the numbers, and we will use them to ensure housing for every Torontonian who needs it! secure.toronto.ca/council/agen...

The Albion Gardens North Etobicoke Community Association is circulating their NIMBY greatest hits flyer trying to drum up opposition to an affordable housing proposal on City land in Rexdale. Please support Diana's petition or write the Planning and Housing Committee.

Toronto, especially Ward 1 - Etobicoke North, please weigh in to support 51 new affordable homes with wraparound supports that is likely to face pushback. If you have never submitted, feel free to ask us Qs. Sign the petition or click on "Submit Comments" here. secure.toronto.ca/council/agen...

Friends in Rexdale, can you help? We are trying to ensure that an innovative, community-led housing project in Rexdale is built, but we're facing significant pushback from neighbours who are pressuring Cllr Crisanti to stop it! Please sign and share this petition: www.change.org/p/support-af...

If you're homeless and want to vote in the upcoming federal election, or a homeless service provider who wants to know more about the voting process, I've created a guide for you! The PDF can be downloaded here: drive.google.com/file/d/1ioJM... #elxn45

My parents are travelling to New Orleans in three weeks. I told them to scrub our entire message history. At the same time, my sister has her citizenship interview — she's been a green card holder for 10 years. I'm sweating bullets worrying about all of them. www.ctvnews.ca/canada/artic...

Even if Toronto Public Health is reporting that toxic drug deaths appear to be decreasing, the death toll remains astronomical. Anything we're seeing now isn't a long-term inevitability, and Ontario's closure of safe consumption sites will massively increase deaths. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

The blanket ban of Canadian media in conjunction with examples like this — a shell page created by an international, pro-Trump media outlet, running $100k in political ads in Canada — has made Meta a haven for misinformation. This is election interference. www.terraloire.com/canadian-pol...

What success? None of the HART Hubs have funding agreements. They didn't "open" — just a handful of services have been brought online, and none of these services are new. All that's happened is that supervised consumption sites have been shut down. www.torontotoday.ca/local/city-h...

At a time Canada is hoping to lure scientists despairing of the climate in the US, a promise to end “the imposition of woke ideology” in the allocation of research funding seems noteworthy

Most of the inmates present in this video have no conviction and the actions undertaken by prison staff are fully illegal. This is happening in Ontario — where all of Doug Ford's "law and order" talk glosses over a justice system they've helped to break. www.thestar.com/news/investi...

“At the end of the day we have an inunction that provides no relief to the applicant in Kitchener or the thousands of other people who rely on the affected sites across Ontario.” By Terry Pender of bsky.app/profile/ther... www.therecord.com/news/waterlo...

Tomorrow night! Playing records at 915 Dupont again. And IYKYK, it's also s TO champ's 32nd birthday, and we won an injunction to keep SCS open. So, it feels like cause to celebrate and come dance!

This is incredible news! We always had the evidence and care on our side.

The visual culture of fascism is often rooted in "traditional" realism. But the visual culture of a modern fascist technocracy is seemingly a (debased, white supremacist) AI-generated meme. It fits, and I hate it, and I hate this. This is absolutely depraved.

Hahahahahaha

ICE is now raiding homeless shelters. In the U.S. and Canada, there is a concerted effort to sow division between homeless newcomers/refugees and "domestic" homeless people. All to distract from the real problem: decades of poor housing policy. www.sandiegouniontribune.com/2025/03/22/i...

"Canada’s most vulnerable would scarcely see any benefit at all from the proposals, [said @davidmaccdn.bsky.social]. Canadians living below the poverty line would only receive $11 under the Liberal plan and $25 from the Conservatives..." @policyalternatives.ca www.thestar.com/politics/fed...

For two days, Ontario's counsel argued that the Ford government's new legislation doesn't ban supervised consumption sites — they are free to relocate within the new zoning laws (albeit they have no resources to do so). Sylvia Jones now says this isn't true (!) In The Trillium: t.co/0T0xfwGd6A

My letter to Council: expanding the HT0 to Go water program is good. But investing in two more water trailers, which can be deployed in emergency weather, won't meet the need — especially for homeless Torontonians. Toronto need an equitable, climate resilient water strategy.

I've read the province's factum. Their entire argument is predicated on eliminating supervised consumption sites within a 200m proximity to daycares and schools, citing child safety and using foreign (not domestic) experts and anecdotal evidence. But they are also preventing any relocation of SCS.

This is excellent. Progressive values and neoliberal policies are incommensurable, and people both know it and are rejecting it. Doubling down on a polite, white, nostalgic repackaging of neoliberalism as "safe" and "comfortable" is delaying far right encroachment. www.thenation.com/article/worl...

Brad Bradford is also spearheading a proposed by-law, modelled after the City of Vaughan's, which would make protests within 100-metres of a childcare centre illegal with up to $100K in fines. There is a childcare centre located at City Hall, which would make this demonstration illegal.

I'm more concerned about the Eglinton LRT continuing as a P3 project after opening. Crosslinx — who've sued the government twice and were cited with 260 quality control issues in 2023, including improperly laid track — have a 30-year maintenance contract. Yikes. www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...

BREAKING: Yuval Abraham, co-director of Oscar-winning documentary "No Other Land," says Israeli settlers beat his co-director Hamdan Ballal, injuring his head and stomach — and then Israeli soldiers invaded the ambulance he was in and seized him. Ballal's whereabouts are now unknown.

In case you haven't yet watched it, 'Your Tomorrow' is now streaming online via TVO! Very proud of my partner who co-wrote the soundtrack with Joseph Shabason. www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGP4...

When we talk about "community safety," the narrative is that homeless people are dangerous. Mario Ferreira, a homeless senior, wasn't a threat to anyone as he slept peacefully on a bench. And now he's dead — a victim of an unprovoked, violent attack. globalnews.ca/news/1109238...
