Guy who wakes up every day wondering what else he can do for himself demands answers from people who wake up every day to provide service to others

I owe the television part of my career to @joyannreid.bsky.social, as do so many other Black voices y'all never would have heard of if not for her. And *that's* why she's gone. They can treat black folks as interchangeable, but everybody Black knows that Joy was indispensable.

Elon is Trump's overseer.

Imagine if we hadn’t let a culture of disrespecting public sector employees develop like a cancer across our nation. Imagine if we had always accorded them the respect and gratitude traditionally reserved for those in the military. Thank you for your service. Practice saying it to public employees.

The motives can be money and power and patriarchal white supremacy all at the same time — this isn’t some weird zero-sum game of authoritarian purposes. It’s so strange to see so many “but what they REALLY want…” theories as if they were each incompatible with the others.

I’m not entirely sure whether I was allowed to take photos at the @themerl.bsky.social but I did, please forgive me. It’s the first time I’ve been lured to a museum thanks only to its social media account, but I resolve to make it a habit in the future. Thank you!

I mean who’s got the energy even

The root that tears apart your foundation begins as a seed of distrust, hate, and blame. The seed that grew into a dictatorship in Europe didn’t arrive overnight. It started with everyday Germans mad about inflation and looking for someone to blame.

The US is burning.

Man credibly accused of assaulting dozens of women claims Ukraine asked for it

If generalizable — which I have no reason to doubt that it is —this explains so much of corporate media

🧵Who is opposing the Trump administration? I analysed 76 actions of the administration since inauguration and then searched for *meaningful* opposition to each. I grouped the types of opposition and considered what we can learn from both them & actions where opposition has been lacking 1/24

The reaction in today’s Financial Times to JD Vance’s devastatingly awful Munich speech. "A senior diplomat said: 'It’s very clear now, Europe is alone.' When I asked him if he now regarded the US as an adversary, he replied: 'Yes.'”

This is why there’s been so much silence as Black history and Black books are being purged, and integration efforts dismantled. Many Democrats think the purges are valid and necessary. “Candidly, the attack on over-the-top wokeism was a valid attack."

The Trump administration has just announced that all college financial aid programs, scholarships, prizes, housing, and graduation ceremonies that help Black or Latino students are now considered to be illegal. The Education Department accuses colleges of discriminating against white students.

This can’t be real but it sure is funny

“If no lawyer within earshot of the president is willing to give him that advice, then I expect you will eventually find someone who is enough of a fool, or enough of a coward, to file your motion. But it was never going to be me. Please consider this my resignation.” - lead AUSA on the Adams case

The intended audience of Sassoon's letter is not Trump supporters or the liberal mob. It's other attorneys, especially those who work in the federal government. And the message is clear: you too can -- and should -- stand by your principles, and uphold for your professional ethics.

I believe this is what Timothy Snyder meant when he wrote, "Remember Professional Ethics. When political leaders set a negative example, professional commitments to just practice become more important. It is hard to subvert a rule-of-law state without lawyers."

These petty hateful bastards.

This is how lawyers are supposed to act.

USAnti-hero: Hi, it’s me I’m the problem, it’s me

So I guess part of the strategy is appointing so much incompetence and insanity to head federal agencies that we find ourselves no longer able to defend those agencies as vital, because they’ve been turned to shit. I hate their hatred of competence and interdependence and, dang, even complexity.

Same <hotdog man> meme, different context

With both RFK Jr and Gabbard confirmed, two people who rose to prominence spreading conspiracy theories about public health and national intelligence will now run the U.S. government agencies in charge of those areas. For someone studying these conspiracy theories for a decade... this is nauseating.

🧵"So this is how liberty dies..." Trump’s first 3 weeks have been a relentless flood of actions. It's incredibly hard to keep up. I’ve gone through 69 actions & mapped out the pattern - showing how they fall within 5 broad domains consistent with authoritarian states 1/9

Oh hey doge-istas, I found some government waste, look over here

I found this very illuminating, from the always insightful Tressie McMillan Cottom www.nytimes.com/2025/02/12/o...
