Yes, and I’m also not shitting on the skill of his comic performances. Just amazed that that’s a line reading that makes me tear up just thinking about it, which is something say Jack Black never did

Still kind of can’t believe that Ben Stiller of all people delivers one of the most emotional lines I’ve ever heard in a movie

Lenny Kravitz surprised me in the Hunger Games films

I have no idea who Barro is but I’m laughing very much at the idea of just sending that picture to someone repeatedly. So good.

Kinda related I also liked how in the 80s/90s Claremont gave Wolverine a variety of female relationships that weren’t romantic, including some mentor situations (Kitty, Jubilee) that didn’t have any creepy sex angles to them. He honestly came across as pretty well adjusted when it came to women

Revealing my age, but I always liked when their relationship was portrayed as two old friends who wouldn’t date but had each other’s backs no matter what. Logan backed Storm as leader & not just to spite Scott. Asgardian Wars really laid this out nicely

My friend introduced me to “turd cutter,” which will stop any cat calls dead. “Nice turd cutter” is the least sexy thing you can say.

My family has done the same, and alone among the huge companies I have some hope that this one may reverse course.

9 year old daughter and Taylor is still an unquestioned #1 with her and her friends. She was too young when the first albums came out so it’s like the whole discography is hitting them all at once. Taylor tribute bands play here & it’s packed with under 12 girls

I’m guessing you don’t have a daughter? The vibe around the elementary school set is “boy band but with better songwriting”

Constantly perplexed the way so many of them are like “We are going to reimagine human consciousness!” and then when you look up what they’re talking about it’s an app that tells you when your lightbulbs are out

I know the reviews aren’t great but I’m curious because I really loved his “Invisible Man”

Not sure if you'd consider it a subset or what, but I love what I call "Salieri stories" about a person who tries really hard at something and encounters someone who's better than them with much less effort. "Amadeus" obviously, but also "The Assassination of Jesse James..." & Ron Howard's "Rush"

These guys seem to want the country to be run by some all powerful CEO, but the president isn’t our boss — he’s our EMPLOYEE.

My dad was an engineer who worked for the Air Force, and he took great pride in the idea that his work was some small part of the larger American apparatus. Trump, Yarvin, Musk, none of these people seem to understand that a lot of people just want to do good work that they think will contribute.

I am not naive to bloat and corruption and how contracts work, but the PURPOSE of government institutions is to serve the needs of the people, not make money. And many, many people who work for the government believe in that mission.

If you have think the country should be run like a business, then sure, you look at the federal government and think “this is a terribly inefficient way to run a business.” But what if, just maybe, the government has some… other purpose?

I just loved that in that world, hard assed loggers would clock out and go grab some brews while they listened to smooth, flowing art rock.

Continue to scrunch my face at the people who play up his “manliness” as a troll, the people who maybe believe it, and the people who do the first so long they turn into the second

Ah, kind of a bummer! I loved his Invisible Man

Was trying to explain to my son that in the 80s there were so few hip hop groups that Chuck would shout out ALL of them in the liner notes.

Frank Miller tells a story of getting in a big argument with Will Eisner about comics where Frank said they were basically just pictures of movies or something and Will said no, they were their own unique thing. Frank said Will convinced him & it changed his whole approach

Been a minute but I recall actually preferring it to “A History of Violence” which has the better rep

I have a Russian-speaking friend who said the same thing, held it up as the only passable version he’d heard in a film

[Contractor’s first day of work] Old guy: So it’s time to let you in on The Secret of our profession. New guy: Oh yeah, tell me! OG: Only respond to 1 out of every 4 calls. NG: …but what if they want to actually hire me? OG: Doesn’t matter.

We extended our patio and I had to dig a whole about 2 ft deep. This resulted in my firm belief that if you can dig a 6 ft deep hole by yourself you should be allowed to kill a person.

I’m a little hit and miss on Tynion’s stuff but this one is fantastic. I also just finished Spectregraph and really enjoyed it.

As someone who pays a lot of attention to politics I thought having a short campaign was great but I think that’s wrong, and a lot of what I read post election makes me think if she had more time she maybe could’ve overcome the inflation/disinformation/anti-Biden headwinds. Maybe.

I hope he never stops doing this, it’s one of the few pleasures for Bears fans. Hilarious as his career started watching Favre do the same thing.
