What’s the point in refusing citizenship to refugees who have ‘made a dangerous journey’? What’s the point in publishing footage of people being deported? I’m sorry to say that this is simply a continuation of the performative cruelty we saw from the Conservatives.

Denying refugees citizenship simply on the grounds that they arrived here “illegally” on small boats *when there are no legal routes* for most to use takes cynicism to new heights. If Govt thinks such performative cruelty will see off Reform, they’re wrong - it’s more likely to strengthen it

Trump’s method is daily whiplash, vertigo, and shock & awe to confuse and overwhelm us. Journalistically, it should be most interesting then to ask: ‘what is it they don’t want us to look at today?’ To not get enraged by his daily gladiator games, and to look beyond them is an act of resistance.
