The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

SCOOP --> The cop who initially attested to Abrego Garcia's alleged MS-13 membership was subsequently suspended and indicted for serious professional misconduct: Sharing case info with a sex worker. This undermines Trumpworld's smears. New piece from me: newrepublic.com/article/1940...

Calling Trump's illegal, vindictive, and crazy effort to treat universities the way he does his contractors--by not paying what is owed, by disavowing contracts--as an "aggressive, ad hoc approach" is maddening not because it is false but because it is incomplete and soft pedals the danger.

DOGE is a criminal conspiracy to defraud the people of the United States

Just to be clear, when Vance talks about loving Europe/Europeans, he's just saying that he likes white people.

(Bloomberg) - The US economy is set to lose billions of dollars in revenue in 2025 from a pullback in foreign tourism and boycotts of American products, adding to a growing list of headwinds keeping recession risk elevated. @bloomberg.com www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

The White House is demanding the sort of racial quota system in hiring and admissions that only existed in conservatives’ minds, but for conservatives.

so, uh, i guess this is happening

all this exposes is that some people don't like writing, reading and thinking

we gotta start referring to these folks as The Hostages

“She started to realize that while the new right’s racism and misogyny were often delivered with an ironic smirk, it was no joke.” We’re going to see so many people “start to realize” it’s going to make your head spin.

This doesn't surprise me. Sociological research shows that discounting of girls' competence and commitment--and celebration of (especially White) boys' brilliance--starts in K-12 schools and ramps up in college/grad school. Girls see how they're treated and reasonably assume it won't get better.

this is wild: vehicle capacity of freeway lanes dropped 10 percent as SUVs took over the road -- not just bc they are bigger. they also take more time and space to slow down and obscure other drivers' sightlines. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

👀🚨JICYMI: New Quinnipiac Poll: More Americans now disapprove of Trump on immigration by 50% to 45% (including 51% independents) MAJORITY of Americans now disapprove of Trump on deportations by 53% to 42% poll.qu.edu/poll-release... cc: @schumer.senate.gov @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social l

This sums it up beautifully. No one *wants* to read a 17yo’s take on Pride and Prejudice. It’s not ‘content’. The writing process is the whole point.

Everyone is waiting on a potential Trump announcement on Pharma tariffs today, which would be madness. The chief executive of pharmaceutical company Nutriband tells the BBC “people are going to die", if the cost of treatment rises due to tariffs.

1/4. On the White House’s theory, if they abduct you, get you on a helicopter, get to international waters, shoot you in the head, and drop your corpse into the ocean, that is legal, because it is the conduct of foreign affairs.

Here we are. In the land of the free.

MIT following Harvard's lead here

People who don't follow regional politics closely won't necessarily appreciate who a massive geopolitical own-goal this is for the United States.

NEW: Trump to USA: There is no rule of law. Today, Trump signaled he would not abide by court decisions and return to the US a Maryland father who was mistakenly deported to El Salvador. He won't even ask El Salvador to send him back. This is cruel & dangerous. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Today is basically an initiation for the media. If they can treat an innocent man being sent to a foreign gulag in defiance of the courts as another “he said-she said” situation they are in the gang.

It is pretty wild to think of Barack Obama sitting with someone from Central America and going “well uhhhh I think it would be a good idea to uhhhh send American citizens to your secret prisons” and the media just being like oh ok that’s dope man anyways how about TARIFFS

The top news from the visit for Fox is about trans people playing sports. Below that, they twice call Abrego Garcia, a man the government admitted in court it has no reason to remove and did so mistakenly, an "MS-13 leader."

SCOOP: Columbia student Mohsen Mahdawi went into an interview today hoping he would come out a U.S. citizen. Instead, ICE arrested him. theintercept.com/2025/04/14/i...

"the state can just summarily imprison someone without filing charges or holding a trial" doesn't just overturn democracy it overturns 1000 years of common law, like throwing out the entire legal system entirely and saying all people in America are the state's property.

when fucking Ritchie Torres is capable of doing this...

there’s been a lot going on, so just in case you forgot that the DOGEing of USAID had consequences, this estimate puts resulting global deaths to date at ~190k and counting. it’s been less than three months

Funny how we went from aiming for a soft landing into steady economic growth into now hoping for a soft landing into "only a recession"

Exclusive: Days before masked ICE agents detained Tufts University student Rumeysa Ozturk to deport her, the State Department determined that the Trump administration had not produced any evidence showing that she engaged in antisemitic activities.

Here's my forecast of where the Trump tariff war will end up: He'll negotiate outcomes that are basically identical to the very low (and often zero) tariffs we already have. And declare that he's managed to negotiate low tariffs. Perhaps a political win, but definitely no economic gain.

I think the Ozturk case suggests that 1) yes, Canary is being used to ID students for deportation 2) someone in State is OVERRIDING evidentiary analyses (like the one WaPo reports that said there was no evidence against Ozturk) to sustain Canary "conclusions."

He's less free to say trans women are women (just like the rest of us). He's less free to say Free Palestine (just like the rest of us). He's less free to advocate diversity in his workplace (just like the rest of us). But he can't imagine wanting to use his speech for that in the first place.

They continue to violate a court order to retrieve someone they illegally deported. We’re now well beyond a constitutional crisis. If they’re allowed to do this, their secret police can sweep up anyone, for any reason, deport them & refuse to bring them back. That would be the end of democracy.

The President openly calls for his loyalist apparatchik at the FCC to use state power to punish media for critical coverage

republicans are disappearing people under the guise of fighting antisemitism and can’t even pretend to give a fuck when a jewish governor’s house gets firebombed on passover

This could be any of us, citizens and non-citizen alike. If Trump can ship someone abroad and then claim the USG is powerless to get them back if they are in a sovereign country (despite a court order), what's to stop him sending you or me to El Salvador?
