Just finished Death of the Author. Loving every periwinkle edged page bit as I got toward the end I was thinking @nnedi.bsky.social what are you doing there’s not enough pages left to end this well. Then I got to it. Oh. That. Was. Brilliant.

When THE MASTER spent that time on EARTH pretending to be an EVIL VICAR, people just thought him was doing one of his PLANS! But ACTUALLY with all that DRY ICE and SATANIC CHANTING, his REAL PASSION was OBVIOUS! Him MAD about HEAVY METAL and can't resist a VISIT to a MOSH PIT! 🤘

Quick reminder that if you wanna get involved in politics the local level may seem like small potatoes but is in fact the basis of politics, and a place where lots of change can be effected. (Via @hawkwinglb.bsky.social )

I can't get to either of these events (this weekend, Brighton on Saturday and London on Sunday), but some of my followers may well be interested. I'm mid-way through reading the book and enjoying it enormously.

DAVROS wants to make the Base a must-visit destination for young Daleks, so sets up an Insta Wall! Now Daleks queue up to burst through it dramatically, and then upload the footage to their Instagrams for 'clout'!

I am finally catching up with Agatha All Along (just watched episode four). I'm really enjoying it, but also somewhat distracted by the fact that Agatha Harkness is very clearly an incarnation of Missy.

I think every designer should write a love letter to a font at least once in their lifetime. This is mine: A 150-year-old font you have likely never heard of, and one you probably saw earlier today. aresluna.org/the-hardest-...

Today I helped a nervous young guy in M&S who so urgently needed trad fashion advice from a bloke who was comfortable in a suit that he asked a complete stranger. I was so pleased to be able to help that I offer you: DOUG'S CRASH COURSE IN SUITS 🧵

Today the SONTARAN ARMY are visiting! DAVROS: Fascinating! A CLONE RACE, all COMPLETELY IDENTICAL! I'm most impressed, FIELD MAJOR STYRE! LINX: Ha ha! I'm LINX not STYRE! We both get that A LOT! 😂 ME: WHAT YOU ALL TALKING ABOUT!? YOU ALL LOOK COMPLETELY BLOODY DIFFERENT!?! 😠

Tonight in Well Known Films Amal Is Watching for the First Time: STARSHIP TROOPERS (1997) I’m doing my part!

The great writer @aliettedebodard.com is going through an awful situation, so a bunch of us put together a funding link to help. (I’ve been asked not to add to what she’s said here.) Do give whatever you can, and please spread the word. www.gofundme.com/f/helping-al...

Took some effort (though there wasn't as much chopping around as I feared) but here's how The War Games In Colour compares to the original episodes. With thanks to @benjamincook.bsky.social for encouragement and verification.

Amazing goal by Donley from near the halfway line to put #LOFC 1-0 up against Man City in the FA Cup tie. It bounced off the crossbar and from the side view it looked as though technically the Man City goalie knocked it in, but it was still spectacular.

I noted down some musings on what the next few years might look like for the world, and on the claim that a Trumpian-induced collapse could spell the 'end of the American Empire': thoughtsofprogress.wordpress.com/2025/02/06/t...

At The Crucible with Fred to watch Death and the King's Horseman by Wole Soyinka, which I last saw in 1991 when the Churchill student theatre group took it to Edinburgh.

This is huge. My petition got approved. It challenges the UK government to the lift the Puberty Blocker ban on the grounds that it contradicts article 8 of The United Nations Convention On The Rights Of The Child. Please sign and Repost ✊️🏳️‍⚧️ petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70...

After a great evening out in Blackpool last night for a friend's 40th, involving cocktails, karaoke and dancing, I am sitting peacefully on a tram watching the seafront go by. #ITINIDKWI

The war is over and the mother of all wars has begun. I was wrong when I said that the victor is the one who emerges alive from this war. I discovered that the real victor is the one who finds a place to shelter his family after the war, or a corner among the rubble of his house to pitch a tent in.

It's not the grandest of station arches, but I do like the sense of perspective you get from the footbridge looking down Platform 6 at Manchester Piccadilly.

Whenever I step into a moving walkway that is not in fact moving, my whole upper body lurches forward as I automatically compensate for a change in momentum that never happens. One day I'm actually going to fall over, and it's going to be the most embarrassing thing ever.
