I have heard racists say “so-called” when implying that the person/people they’re talking about are unqualified for what they’re doing (ie “the so-called singer Beyoncé” etc) but I’ve never in my life heard someone say “so-called Black people” and would probably die laughing in their face if I did

It’s like looking at food you don’t like and going “ugh, so-called Lima beans”

What does “so-called” mean here? Is he suggesting this is an organization pretending to be the New York Times?

My junior high communications class did a radio show over the school PA and the teacher did a fire sale of all of the 45s played over the year to the student DJs, which is why I own a copy of the “Head Over Heels” 45.

He had at least one song in an ad campaign but I’m talking more specifically about the vibe of what he’s putting out there; it’s a similar type of idiosyncratic-yet-commercial thing that manages to simultaneously be weirdly singular and broadly familiar as what Moby did with Play

I feel like he has moved into the “music for commercials” space that Moby carved out in the early 2000s

In a perfect world this entire album would have dominated the pop charts

No, that’s Benjamin Bratt’s character arc. Caine basically flips from cranky queen to charmed guncle for no discernible reason aside from plot mechanics

I was sitting there going “did I fall asleep and miss 15 critical minutes where Caine’s character softens towards Bullock’s and begins incorporating her strengths into her performance” but no, the movie went straight from “ugh eyeroll” to “you are the best I’ve ever coached” with no transition
