Oh my god this is so funny and a very good thing to happen. He's making Vance wear the tariffs because he doesn't want to--a fall guy--but he's currently the one set up to take over from Trump, and much more effectively!

The Dallas ICE office is involved in a mass removal effort targeting nearly 200 people — many without removal orders — scheduled to be deported to El Salvador today. This is not just cruel – it is lawless. I refuse to stay quiet while families are being torn apart, and lives are being put at risk.

Defiance of court order. Purging Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. New by Judge Amy Berman Jackson: Court has reason to believe Trump officials "are thumbing their nose at both this Court and the Court of Appeals." "dressing their RIF in new clothes" storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Trump fabricates a photo of Mr. Garcia with MS-13 tattoo on his hand. This is NOT a real image. Trump and his regime fabricated it. Please understand that Trump regime would fabricate evidence to put you or your family in jail. This is what FASCISM regimes do. www.mediaite.com/trump/trump-...

To paraphrase “The American President” pretty soon Trump is going to have everyone in the SCOTUS press corps looking up the meaning of the word “petard.” (As in: “the court that gave Trump immunity will be hoisted by their own petard when they want to hold him in contempt and he says ‘fuck off.’”)

as we've seen by now, they start with immigrants won't be stretch for them to building master databases for surveillance of lgbtq people, young women, progressives, targeted religions etc that might have sounded conspiratorial a couple months ago...but here we are

NEW: The NYT reports that Abrego Garcia was actually moved to a lower security detention center 9 days ago, but the Trump Administration signed a sworn declaration 6 days ago that he was at CECOT. Here's a gift link to the story: www.nytimes.com/2025/04/18/u...

One step that Chris Van Hollen floated in his press conference: Boycott El Salvador. El Salvador has seen an increase in tourism due its tropical climate and historical attractions. So now it’s time to hit Bukele where it hurts, which is his tourism industry.

NEW: The National Intelligence Council determined in a secret assessment early this month that Venezuela is not directing an invasion of the United States by the prison gang Tren de Aragua, a judgment that contradicts Trump’s public statements www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...

This is: (a) correct; (b) a demonstration of Van Hollen's political skills, which are stronger than most of us realized; (c) a sign to other politicians that bold action will bring outsized attention, as it has with Booker and AOC.

New on MSNBC: All AmeriCorps volunteers have been sent home and pulled from projects across the country.    California Gov. Gavin Newsom says his state will be suing to stop the termination of the volunteer program.

OPINION | One hundred days of Trump's second administration has wrought chaos and destruction, but at least we are getting a clearer view of who is really responsible, writes @djrothkopf.bsky.social.

Memorize their faces.

Marco Rubio is not Secretary of State. Scott Bessent is not Treasury Secretary. Kristi Noem does not run DHS. Our USTR is just a bit player on trade policy. Pete Hegseth is assistant secretary of defense for racism. I'm not even sure Trump's the boss. My latest. www.thedailybeast.com/the-real-pow...

Don’t be fooled by the fancy titles. The people running the show in Trumpworld aren’t always the ones we expected would be just a few months ago. My latest.

How can our president subvert the rule of law so flagrantly, and dismantle the institutions at the bedrock of our democracy? @normornstein.bsky.social and @djrothkopf.bsky.social are back to break down everything from the past week and more. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t...

New criteria (among many many) for blocking someone. If you say you say both sides are the same and therefore you don’t get engaged in politics or don’t vote, instablock. You are part of the problem and I’ve got nothing for you.

The Trump Admin is doing a lot of damage but on its big goals—mass deportation, ending war in Ukraine, energizing the economy—it is failing across the board.

This would of course be another step deeper into authoritarianism. And of course, it would be illegal and challenged. But it could do great damage to fund-raising and operations for these institutions even if ultimately reversed.

"I’ve heard from reliable sources that the administration is planning to launch next week a first wave of attacks on think tanks and philanthropies it dislikes by moving to revoke their 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status." via @billkristolbulwark.bsky.social here:

Bukele is making a play with the assistance of the US to turn the outsourcing of human rights violations into a source of foreign exchange for El Salvador, a new export category in much the same way educating the world has long been a top US export. Until now.

This is nonsense. A weak and transparent negotiating tactic born out of pique…and a deep unwillingness to acknowledge that Russia is the aggressor and only one who can end this and that the US refuses to pressure them.

And right wing propaganda outlets like the New York Post immediately fell for it and promoted the false narrative. Almost as if it had all been coordinated in advance.

Let them eat data.

My story breaking this news exclusively was 7K+ words and had almost all of this in it, and more: www.npr.org/2025/04/15/n...

Chris Van Hollen just secured himself a place in the ‘2025 Do Something Democrats’ Hall of Fame, right alongside Cory Booker, AOC, Tim Walz, Chris Murphy and others. To other Democrats who would like to join this winner’s circle, now is your chance. Step up and fight.

I expect and demand this from every single member of Congress. This is not a partisan issue. You either defend your oath to the constitution or start counting your days in office. This is where the rubber meets the road, my fellow citizens. Tolerate NO defense of this by anyone, ever!

Credit to Sen. Van Hollen. As do all decent people, I hope it is a step toward winning back this man's freedom.

BREAKING: Juan Carlos Lopez-Gomez has been released. This is the moment he reunited with his mom.

I said my main goal of this trip was to meet with Kilmar. Tonight I had that chance. I have called his wife, Jennifer, to pass along his message of love. I look forward to providing a full update upon my return.

Key reporting from @nickmiroff.bsky.social: Trump is waaay behind on his deportation goals. So officials want to enlist private contractors and deputize thousands of sheriffs and local police officers to start deporting people in their towns: www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

Dear Leader is a genius. (Check out the looks on their faces...)

If you receive one of these bizarre, unethical, poorly written letters from Ed Martin, please send it to me so that I can write about how bizarre, unethical, and poorly written it is. Signal: annabower.24 Email: anna.bower@lawfaremedia.org

The speech police.

Breaking News: A Trump official asked the IRS to look into concerns from Mike Lindell, the pillow entrepreneur, that he "may have been inappropriately targeted" for an audit, according to an email seen by The New York Times.

INBOX: over 50 NYU professors are taking their classes off-campus for the next week in a "Solidarity Picket" to protest "the University’s lack of commitment to protect international students in the face of the Trump admin’s attacks." some profs moved to in-person "sanctuary spaces," others online.

US FDA suspends food safety quality checks after staff cuts reut.rs/42C4h1Z

🚨 Update: The same Treasury official sent a **nearly identical** email to IRS asking to review an audit of a group run by Kansas state Sen. Rick Kloos. So now two emails that we know of reflecting Treasury intervening in tax investigations of Trump's "high profile friends."

He cannot legally fire Powell. If he does it anyway and no one stops him, the economy is not the only thing that'll be destroyed.

Why is the Supreme Court granting oral argument in the birthright citizenship EO cases a big deal? Well, for one, it’s a case that came to SCOTUS on the so-called shadow docket, a loose collection of “emergency” applications that don’t go through the usual full appellate process. 1/

The opinion by Judge Wilkinson for the Fourth Circuit denying the government’s most recent request for a stay or mandamus against Judge Xinis’s rulings in the Abrego García case is especially powerful when you consider it was written by … Judge Wilkinson: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

INCREDIBLE opinion by Wilkinson refusing to stay Judge Xinis's orders in the Abrego Garcia case, condemning DOJ's arguments as "shocking not only to judges, but to the intuitive sense of liberty that Americans far removed from courthouses still hold dear." storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

“We’ll have to find out what the truth is” What a great idea! We should invent some sort of “process” that allows us all to discover that truth
