Sen Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) letter to chair of Senate Judiciary Cmte, which is poised to vote on confirmation of Kash Patel: “We regret that you have rejected our efforts to inquire into the first-ever invocation of Fifth Amendment protection by a nominee seeking to lead the FBI”

When Disney paid Trump $15 million people were outraged. Now it looks like they got a bargain. In protection rackets, the prices always go up. I built Democracy Docket to stand up to bullies like Trump. Become a member now to help support its work. www.democracydocket.com/me-subscribe/

Because they are evil, we must stand up to them. But because they are also stupid, we needn’t be afraid to.

The Whitehouse is not stupid or incompetent. They’re malicious. This entire freeze has been nothing but a trial to see how far they can go and how far the backlash will be. The chaos and confusion is the point. It’s nothing but blinders to distract you. Move accordingly.

Don't give up - do something. A great list for civic minded Americans, from @protectdemocracy.org open.substack.com/pub/protectd...

This @washingtonpost.com headline and story are deeply misleading. The real question in the case is not whether a state (i) "may" (ii) "allow" a religious public school, but instead whether a state (i) *must* (ii) *create* a religious public school. [1] www.washingtonpost.com/education/20...

My firm @eliaslawgroup.bsky.social has already encouraged recent law school grads who planned to participate in the DOJ Honors Program to apply for open positions. elias.law/careers

Oh no

The reality is that these positions are more important than Sec of Defense because they will do all the work and define all strategies. He won't freelance decisions. @schumer.senate.gov @sanders.senate.gov @fetterman.senate.gov What do you have planned ?

Firing independent watchdogs is straight out of the authoritarian playbook. Removes another obstacle to corruption and abuse of power www.reuters.com/world/us/tru...

Elon Musk is doing a Nazi salute. The denials are bullshit. You see it. I see it. They see it. Anyone denies it the appropriate response is FU*K YOU!

“It was ntentional, deliberate and unequivocal.”

Starting to get it?

Bjorn Höcke of the German AFD party that Elon Musk Endorsed.

"Trump made clear that a lawless presidency is at the core of his second term vision...Opposing, resisting, and checking Trump, and ultimately defeating Trumpism, are the prerequisites to preserving, protecting, and defending the Constitution of the United States." www.thebulwark.com/p/all-out-as...

Query for WH Press Secretary: Elon Musk has an office in the White House. Does the president support his "salute" yesterday? Has anyone at the White House asked Musk what he meant by it, or suggested he clarify what he meant? Is it fine if other White House staffers offer such salutes?

Inauguration Day: So much of what was done yesterday is and will prove to be deeply unpopular. The pardons of violent insurrectionists (which JD Vance said wouldn’t happen only days ago). Prescription drug price increases. The price increases that will follow tariffs. And so on. 1/

Pardons and commutations erase accountability, but dishonor remains.

What’s the difference between a gov controlling an algorithm, silently eliminating reach for things it doesn’t like, vs the same gov using its power, to demand that the platform remove the things it doesn’t like.? In China they are overt. With TikTok in the US, they control silently

The Capitol Rotunda has been traditionally used for presidents lying in state. This Monday, it will be used for a president lying to *all* states.

Further evidence that CNN is trying to suck up to Trump. Jim is among the most pro-democracy voices in legacy media. So, of course, CNN wants to bury his show. Shameful.

"Democracy Dies in Darkness" is kinda like "Don't Be Evil" as a slogan. It's a bit worrying when you choose it, but it's a lot more worrying when you take it down

Sounds familiar

Kash and his QFBI will make them pay

Remember when he wrote an odd op-ed saying the criminal cases against Trump should be dismissed?👀

Judge Cannon will permit DOJ to release Vol 1 of the report while holding up Vol 2, which they’d already said they wouldn’t, with a hearing. Oh, & she still lacks jurisdiction to do any of the above but 🤷🏻‍♀️

The most frustrating thing about Smith's report is that the facts were known: Trump planned in advance to use false claims of voter fraud to challenge a loss, his words incited J6 violence, he supported rioters, calling them things like "patriots," & Americans, nonetheless, reelected him.
