Good news! My beloved little wonder book is freshly published by @cambridgeup.bsky.social ! Digital access is available for free through 27 Feb 2025. Please share! Please welcome this beauty into the world! #C18L #18thcentury DOI: doi.org/10.1017/9781...

The CSU's literally *shutting majors & firing faculty* at the same time as it *pays multi-millions to Silicon Valley companies* for this climate-disaster plagiarism machine. It's unconscionable. The money (state money!) is being siphoned from students/faculty, for the CSU to be tech bro paradise.

In case anyone is wondering, there was zero faculty consultation about this. Do better, CSU!

Sonoma State announced faculty layoffs and program closures today. Targeted programs are mostly humanities and social sciences Like all CSU, SSU is an institution that serves first generation and minoritized students. California has chronically underfunded the CSU and has billions in reserve.

HBO has declined to renew “Sesame Street” for new episodes. The series that’s been teaching generations of little kids since 1969 now has no studio. Please consider donating to Sesame Workshop to ensure the residents of 123 Sesame Street are still around to teach kids of all needs and backgrounds.

On this Giving Tuesday ASECS is asking for $18 (get it? get it?). $18 can do a lot for our colleagues and our field:

"By then, I knew that what I had always wanted from a story was what I had wanted from life: to make it mean something despite what seemed like utter chaos." Samantha Colicchio on her journey with the hit TV show Lost. the-rambling.com/2024/11/23/i...

Turkey trot your way over to @therambling.bsky.social straight away, because our latest issue is out—from Lost to Lord of the Rings, reality TV to “succubus chic,” you will not lack for conversation at the dinner table after reading the essays at the-rambling.com. 🐌🦃

Los Angeles! We are collecting blankets and maternity clothes (6mo+) for our unhoused neighbors. We have two pregnant community members at the same time! Warm blankets and comforters are also appreciated, it's getting cold out. And if you have large scraps of new carpet (6ft x 6ft ot larger)

A new open-access journal, Public Humanities, has launched. I'm proud to have a piece in the inaugural "Manifesto" issue, on "The Necessity of Public Writing." I hope academo-friends will read, circulate, propose, and submit. doi.org/10.1017/pub....

Please share and use: a spreadsheet documenting the cuts announced by 87 (!) US universities & colleges during the 2023-24 academic year … so far. A long, dispiriting list of college closures, faculty/staff layoffs, academic program eliminations, and significant budget cuts.   1/

grateful to my GU colleagues who stood in their regalia today and read out names & academic biographies of the 100 scholar-teachers killed in Gaza

If you are a member of ASECS’s Women's Caucus, we have a new email address: [email protected]. Add us to your safe list. Not a member of the Caucus? We can add you. The caucus is open to people who do not identify as “woman” even though our panels focus on women’s issues.

Noticed/participated in lots of ASECS conversations about how we might be in solidarity with Palestinians. Here is one extremely modest thing we can do: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

My friend is establishing a trust to support her neighbor, whose disability status + benefits were revoked despite extensive medical evidence, + whose gender affirming care is at risk due to back pay of disability benefits. Pls support Heather if you can! gofund.me/bbf0e777

Wow. It's almost as if the enrollment crisis has more to do with declining state funding and rising tuition costs than a slight decline in the number of college-age students. Who would have guessed?

Two weeks ago, I found out my position at St. Norbert College had been eliminated due to budget cuts: one of 21 faculty positions (13 in the humanities) eliminated at the college so far this year. I was under tenure review, and now I'm not. I have until May, and then my contract will be done.

Hi! We only have four mentors for ASECS -- we're looking for more so we can have a much more complete mentoring meeting. Please volunteer, it's just 2 hours and you're doing essential service to the profession.

Did you know: 1 in 40 ppl in the U.S. with a college degree got it from the CSU? Yet the faculty that make that possible are so underpaid many need govt assistance to make ends meet. Me and 29,000 of my friends are on strike this week, the biggest in CSU history ✊🏼 see my timeline for ways to support

On strike #cfa #csu

Want to support the Cal State strike? You can with some ~form-filling shenanigans~ There are 23 campuses and 23 forms that it would be bad to fill out with false info! Here are ALL 23 LINKS. Pls share! Bakersfield: app.smartsheet.com/b/form/496e7... Chico State: app.smartsheet.com/b/form/5ee49...

I'll be on strike next week with 30,000 of my colleagues in the largest labor movement in Cal State history. I wrote about why I'm on strike and why we are refusing the narrative management has offered. It's time that we invest in students, not investment accounts. medium.com/@kateozment/...

It would be SUCH A SHAME if some of y'all decided to use this non-secured form that CSU management has set up to encourage students to narc on faculty striking and give them trash data to comb through. Such. A. Shame. Certainly don't do that. app.smartsheet.com/b/form/76a7e...

CSUN has one of the only orange groves left in the San Fernando Valley, + it provides a free, healthy food + shade resource for our students + community. It was wonderful to help care for the land today (1/2) #communityengagement #sustainability

Today’s @nytimes.com story about the Cal State strike. I am begging you to email me or do any research. They have $8.6 billion in cash and investments and $2.5 billion in reserves. THERE IS NO DEFICIT. Interview me! I will send you links! Care about nearly 500k students as much as fake plagiarism!
