Germans from all walks of life participated in the Holocaust—everybody. It's foolish to think there was something unique about that particular group in the systematic slaughter of millions of civilians. Clearly this is something humans anywhere are capable of under the right (wrong) circumstances.

At the @aipadphoto.bsky.social show I saw a photo magazine I'd never seen before that looked great, but at the time I didn't feel like springing for it. Today I decided to order a copy online. Shipping from the UK: $14. Womp womp.

Last night's radio show featured sounds you'll love by musical artists with the names Pataphonie, Höyry-Kone, Cervello, and more. See/hear at this link: wfmu.org/playlists/sh... @wfmu.bsky.social

This is the kind of piece that made Trump, an obvious fool and nonentity at the time, seem like someone significant in the '80s and '90s. Even if the writers are "anti-Trump" they don't seem to realize that this is just another hagiography.

So... Beanie Walker. If you want to see silent movie title cards done right, Walker was the best to ever do it. Nobody came close.

This week's installment of "It's Complicated" (an hour of prog and prog-adjacent music) sails through your window tonight at 7:00 ET. Listen at wfmu.org or via the phenomenal @wfmu.bsky.social app.

The excellent blog/newsletter Inconspicuous Consumption has a new feature on my tire-shop photo series. Thanks to IC's publisher, Paul Lukas, for his attention to detail. www.inconspicuous.info/p/the-surpri... #Photography

#NowPlaying Drew Gardner, S/T. Great cassette release on @eiderdownrecords.bsky.social. Long, quiet, modal guitar/bass/drum jams. Shades of Sandy Bull but with less incense and a shade more rock.

Social-media dilemma: Seeing a photo of a woman friend from 10, 20 years ago (before I knew her) and she's gorgeous. I can't very well say "Wow, you were so beautiful." I mean, she still is, but different.

Anytime I play Richard Hell's bass (now owned by my friend George) I need to post a photo of it. Sorry.

Ask these people, on television, if they would have prosecuted the people who hid Anne Frank.

Never noticed this before. One of those ceremonial street signs, this one commemorating the famous Malbone St. subway disaster. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malbone...

Not a good day to bike in Brooklyn. There seem to be a few races happening. Runners and their supporters absolutely everywhere, cops, traffic snarls, horns blaring. I turned back after fifteen minutes, but at least I got a quick shot of this old sign.

This is, yes, some straight-up Nazi crap and is almost more chilling than the arrests themselves.

See the excellent Weegee exhibition at the ICP if you can. It closes soon. I was wrong about them borrowing the name "Society of the Spectacle" randomly; they make a very direct connection between Debord's ideas and Weegee's work. Not sure I completely agree, but that's OK. The show is great.

My subscription to @nybooks.com has lapsed, so the article I was reading was cut off by their paywall, but it was cut off when I was 500 words into it, instead of the more usual first paragraph. This is a clever approach, as the idea is to frustrate you. They took me half the way there, so to speak.

Three young women sitting next to me in the subway, speaking a language I couldn't identify. Lots of velar fricatives. Was it Arabic? I worked up the nerve to ask them and it turned out to be Georgian. Wikipedia says:

Gorgeous poetic Madadayo shot. Kurosawa feeling Dersu Uzala-ish

Ridiculing fashion victims in 1906. Hilarious.

There will always be people like this. Think of the standard bell curve—by definition you'll have total nutcases at the far end. The thing is, not only is this POS being treated as near-mainstream, but he's now running the country.

For the love of God, if you have to get anywhere in NYC today either find an alternative to the subway or leave yourself an extra three hours' travel time.

Macron leaving Trump hanging is epic and deserves news coverage.

Why was Donald Trump the only person out of hundreds of attendees wearing a blue suit to the pope's funeral? a. 3,000-word article by semiotics prof about the message he chose to send to his followers about power and control. b. He's a fucking idiot.

Guitarists and bassists really need to up their strap game. I'm seeing a lot of ugly or at least boring straps out there. Attractive straps generally don't cost more than unattractive ones. The place I bought these two from, Feedback Straps, sadly no longer exists. #GuitarStraps

Incredibly, I saw two guitarists playing this unusual variant of the Les Paul Junior in the last few days: Drew Gardner of Elkhorn and Mustin Douch of Nasalrod (shown). The LPJ is a great-sounding, dirty guitar (in the Gibson tradition), and we need to see more of them. #Guitars
